DevOps Platform Engineer
Location: Leeds / Halifax / Manchester / London, UK
Work Model: Hybrid – 2 Days per Week
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Rate: £470 per day inside IR35
Are you an experienced DevOps / Platform Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in Harness, Ansible Automation Platform and enterprise-scale automation, ideally gained within the banking or financial services sector?
We’re looking for a highly skilled DevOps Platform Engineer to design, build, automate and manage scalable, secure and reliable infrastructure platforms that enable development teams to deliver applications efficiently within a large-scale banking environment. The role will focus on Harness and Ansible as centralised enterprise platforms, supporting multiple engineering and development teams. You’ll be responsible for platform reliability, automation, security, integrations and developer experience, with the opportunity to influence how platform services are delivered across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and manage centralised Harness and Ansible platform capabilities
- Administer and maintain Harness CI/CD at enterprise scale
- Develop and manage pipeline-as-code and reusable Harness templates
- Design and maintain robust, reusable Ansible Playbooks, Roles and Collections
- Manage Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) and Ansible Core environments
- Manage inventories, execution environments and RBAC across centralised Ansible instances
- Deliver Harness and Ansible as shared services for multiple engineering and development teams
- Apply a Platform-as-a-Product approach to internal tooling and services
- Develop clear technical documentation, standards and guidance
- Support containerised automation using Docker and Kubernetes
- Implement security guardrails, secrets management and compliance controls within central pipelines
- Integrate platforms with enterprise tools including Jira, ServiceNow, GitHub/GitLab and monitoring platforms
- Develop and maintain API-based integrations between Harness, Ansible and other enterprise services
- Identify and resolve platform reliability, performance and automation issues

Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Platform Engineer, DevOps Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer or similar
- Strong hands-on experience administering Harness CI/CD
- Experience with Harness pipeline-as-code and template management
- Strong enterprise experience with Ansible and Ansible Automation Platform (AAP)
- Excellent knowledge of Ansible Playbooks, Roles and Collections
- Experience managing Ansible inventories, execution environments and RBAC
- Experience delivering CI/CD and automation platforms as centralised/shared services
- Experience supporting multiple engineering/development teams at enterprise scale
- Strong understanding of Platform Engineering and Platform-as-a-Product principles
- Solid experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience implementing security controls and compliance guardrails within CI/CD platforms
- Experience with HashiCorp Vault or similar secrets-management solutions
- Strong understanding of RBAC and secure platform administration
- Experience integrating platforms using APIs
- Experience integrating with tools such as Jira, ServiceNow, GitHub/GitLab and monitoring platforms
- Banking / financial services experience is highly desirable
- Ability to understand developer requirements and translate them into scalable platform solutions

Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting platforms used by 1,000+ developers
- Experience building or managing Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs)
- Experience working within large banking or regulated financial services environments
- Strong DevSecOps background
- Experience establishing self-service capabilities for development teams
- Experience with enterprise-scale cloud infrastructure and automation
- Experience working with GitOps / Infrastructure-as-Code practices
- Relevant certifications in Ansible, Kubernetes, DevOps or cloud technologies
