DevOps / Platform Engineer

A fantastic opportunity for a DevOps / Platform Engineer to join a rapidly growing technology company building sophisticated cloud software and smart workplace solutions. Following continued commercial success, the company is significantly expanding its international engineering function, including its Cambridge R&D team. You will join a small, highly skilled DevOps team responsible for building, scaling and operating the cloud infrastructure, deployment tooling and automation behind its technology platform. This is an excellent opportunity for an academically strong engineer with commercial DevOps or Platform Engineering experience who wants to work within a technically challenging environment.

Location: Cambridge, minimum 3 days per week in the office

Salary: £50,000 to £85,000 per annum DOE + great benefits + incident response/on-call allowance + equity options

Requirements for DevOps / Platform Engineer:

  • At least 1 year of commercial experience within DevOps Engineering, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering or a closely related role
  • Commercial experience with Kubernetes, Terraform and Docker. You do not need to be an expert in all three, but should have good knowledge of each
  • This company values a strong academic background - 2.1 or 1st Class Degree in Computer Science or similar from a leading University with at least ABB at A Level (or international equivalent)
  • Experience with a major cloud platform such as Azure, AWS or GCP
  • Good understanding of cloud infrastructure, deployment and networking
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and infrastructure automation
  • Experience with CI/CD and automated delivery pipelines
  • Understanding of software engineering and systems design principles
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a genuine enthusiasm for technology
  • Ability to quickly pick up new technologies and work across a varied technical environment
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both software and infrastructure-focused engineers

Responsibilities for DevOps / Platform Engineer:

  • Design, build and operate scalable cloud infrastructure and developer tooling
  • Work with technologies including Kubernetes, Terraform and Docker
  • Build and maintain containerised environments and cloud deployment infrastructure
  • Develop and improve Infrastructure as Code and automation
  • Build, maintain and enhance CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling
  • Work across cloud networking, databases, data storage and associated infrastructure
  • Develop and improve monitoring, metrics and observability across the platform
  • Help ensure systems are designed for performance, scalability, resilience and high availability
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers to improve development, testing and deployment processes
  • Research, evaluate and test new technologies that could enhance the platform or engineering environment
  • Contribute to technical design discussions across areas including systems architecture and networking
  • Over time, participate in the incident response rota, investigating, mitigating and resolving technical issues when required
