Job title: DevOps Software Engineer
Location: UK/ Germany/ India
We are seeking experienced DevOps Software Engineers to join our software engineering organisation and play a key role in enabling efficient, reliable, and secure software delivery across automotive software programmes.
The role will be responsible for designing, developing, and continuously improving CI/CD pipelines, development environments, automation, and supporting infrastructure for both AUTOSAR and non-AUTOSAR software components. Working closely with software development squads, DevSecOps specialists, and technical specialists, you will help drive modern DevOps practices across the software development lifecycle.
As an experienced specialist, you will provide technical direction, mentorship, and hands-on support to colleagues while contributing to the future strategy and capabilities of software delivery.
Key Performance Indicators
- Lead Time for Changes: Continuously improve the time required for software changes to progress from development through validation and deployment, demonstrating efficient and streamlined delivery processes.
- Mean Time to Recovery (MTTR): Reduce the average time required to diagnose, recover from, and resolve production or pipeline-related incidents.
- Code Quality: Monitor and improve code quality using appropriate static analysis and code quality tools, with a focus on maintainability, readability, reliability, and adherence to coding standards.
- Documentation: Maintain complete, accurate, and accessible documentation covering CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure configurations, automation, processes, and operational procedures.
- Stakeholder Satisfaction: Gather and respond to feedback from software development teams, testers, and other stakeholders to continuously improve DevOps processes, tooling, and support.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Design, implement, maintain, and continuously improve robust GitLab CI/CD pipelines supporting both AUTOSAR and non-AUTOSAR software components.
- Automate build, test, validation, and deployment processes using Python, Bash, Go, and Ansible, improving reliability, repeatability, and delivery efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional software teams to identify workflow inefficiencies, remove delivery bottlenecks, and improve software development and engineering practices.
- Configure, maintain, and support development and test environments using Docker and containerisation technologies, ensuring consistent and reproducible environments across teams.
- Utilise Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and other cloud technologies to improve the performance, reliability, scalability, and observability of the software delivery infrastructure.
- Implement appropriate monitoring, logging, and metrics collection to provide visibility of infrastructure and CI/CD pipeline performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues relating to build failures, automated testing, deployment problems, infrastructure failures, and CI/CD pipeline performance.
- Implement and maintain security best practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle, supporting DevSecOps principles and compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Support the implementation of appropriate access controls, dependency management, vulnerability management, and security scanning within the software delivery environment.
- Manage software artefacts and dependencies using JFrog Artifactory and associated tooling.
- Establish and maintain effective Git workflows, branching strategies, and version-control practices.
- Stay current with emerging DevOps technologies, automation practices, cloud capabilities, and trends within the automotive and embedded software industries.
- Document DevOps processes, procedures, architecture, configuration, troubleshooting guidance, and engineering best practices.
- Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance to team members on DevOps practices, tools, and principles.
- As an experienced specialist, provide technical direction and hands-on support to team members in solving complex engineering and DevOps challenges.
- Work collaboratively with Technical Specialists and other software squads to shape future software delivery strategies, capabilities, and functions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the software development lifecycle, including automation, quality, security, reliability, and developer experience.
- Undertake any other duties or activities reasonably directed by the line manager in connection with the role.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
