About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead DevSecOps Engineering Lead to join a critical UK MOD digital transformation initiative. This role is pivotal in shaping and implementing secure, automated, and efficient DevSecOps practices across multiple cloud environments, including MODCloud ACE/i-ACE on Microsoft Azure, MODCloud ICE on AWS, and OCI/MODCloud OCE on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The successful candidate will work remotely on a contract basis for an initial period of six months or longer, with a daily rate of 645 inside IR35. An active SC security clearance is essential for this position, reflecting the sensitive nature of the work involved.

The Lead DevSecOps Engineer will be instrumental in establishing best practices, ensuring security, compliance, and automation are embedded throughout the software development lifecycle.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess extensive hands-on experience and proven leadership in DevSecOps practices within complex environments. Essential qualifications include expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, along with proficiency in tools like Terraform, Kubernetes/EKS, Docker, GitHub Actions, GitOps, and Argo CD. Strong scripting skills in Python and Bash are required, as well as experience with security tools such as HashiCorp Vault, Trivy, and cert-manager. Candidates should demonstrate excellent stakeholder management, communication skills, and experience working with distributed engineering teams. A background in UK Government or GDS delivery is highly desirable, along with an active SC security clearance.
Responsibilities
- Lead the adoption and integration of DevSecOps engineering practices across multiple MOD digital products and cloud estates.
- Design, implement, and govern secure CI/CD and GitOps pipelines to ensure consistent delivery standards.
- Integrate security scanning, vulnerability management, and compliance controls into the development lifecycle.
- Drive Infrastructure as Code initiatives using Terraform to automate and standardize infrastructure deployment.
- Work with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS EKS to facilitate scalable and secure deployments.
- Implement secrets management, identity, and access controls utilizing tools like HashiCorp Vault.
- Establish observability, monitoring, logging, and audit mechanisms to maintain system integrity and security.
- Develop secure-by-design engineering practices aligned with MOD security standards and policies.
- Coordinate efforts among DevSecOps engineers, developers, testers, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless collaboration.
- Create and maintain security policies, technical standards, and operational runbooks to support ongoing operations.
- Support incident response, patch management, risk mitigation, and compliance activities to uphold security posture.
