About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead DevSecOps Engineering Lead to join a high-profile UK MOD digital transformation programme. This role is pivotal in shaping and implementing secure, automated, and efficient DevSecOps practices across multiple cloud environments, including MODCloud ACE/i-ACE (Azure), MODCloud ICE (AWS), and MODCloud OCE (Oracle Cloud Infrastructure). As a key member of the project team, you will work closely with a leading technology partner to deliver secure digital products into the Defence environment, ensuring that all solutions adhere to strict security, compliance, and operational standards. This is a remote, contract-based position for an initial period of six months or more, offering a unique opportunity to influence critical national infrastructure while working on cutting-edge cloud and security technologies.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with hands-on experience in DevSecOps, cloud engineering, and security practices. You should have proven leadership experience in managing cross-functional engineering teams and implementing secure DevSecOps pipelines. Familiarity with UK Government and GDS delivery standards is essential, along with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. Candidates must hold an active SC security clearance to be considered for this role. Technical proficiency in AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, Terraform, GitHub Actions, GitOps tools like Argo CD, Docker, Vault, Trivy, cert-manager, Grafana, Loki, and scripting languages such as Python and Bash is required. A background in infrastructure automation, security controls, and observability is also critical to succeed in this position.
Responsibilities
- Lead and embed DevSecOps engineering practices across multiple MOD digital products, ensuring consistency and security standards are maintained.
- Design, develop, and govern secure CI/CD and GitOps pipelines, integrating security scanning and vulnerability management tools.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to automate environment provisioning and configuration management.
- Work with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and Docker, including AWS EKS, to deploy and manage cloud-native applications.
- Establish and manage secrets, identity, and access management solutions using tools like HashiCorp Vault, ensuring secure handling of sensitive data.
- Develop and maintain observability, monitoring, logging, and audit controls to support operational excellence and security compliance.
- Create and promote secure-by-design engineering practices aligned with MOD security requirements and standards.
- Coordinate efforts among DevSecOps engineers, developers, testers, and infrastructure teams to foster collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Develop and maintain security processes, technical standards, and operational runbooks to streamline operations and incident response.
- Support incident response activities, patch management, risk assessments, and compliance audits to uphold security posture.
