Job Description: Clinical Support Assistant

The Clinical Support Assistant will provide a mixture of general and specific care to a group of patients under the guidance and supervision of a registered nurse or allied health professional. The post holder will be expected to become proficient and competent in their area of practice by undertaking competency assessments specific to the area of clinical practice. The post holder will promote optimum independence and individualized client-centered care to a delegated caseload.

The post holder will also support the Community Diabetes Team to deliver against key performance indicators, participate in structured diabetes education and community outreach, and maintain quality of the service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the Consultant, Diabetes Specialist Nurses, and the Specialist Dietician, ensuring the effective provision of nursing care to patients attending the integrated diabetes service in Enfield.
• Deliver Desmond Education Training programmes for people with type 2 diabetes. Training will be arranged through the Desmond National Training Centre, and support will be given to enable the successful applicant to achieve the required accreditation.
• Possess excellent clinical, organizational, IT, and communication skills.
• Provide phlebotomy service, support patients with blood glucose monitoring using new available technology and devices, and demonstrate a good understanding of results interpretation and management.
• Monitor vital signs, perform weight checks, and support clinicians with clinic preparation, including blood test results.
• Support administrative duties including booking and canceling appointments, supporting with booking follow-up appointments, and reducing DNAs.
• Support clinicians with auditing data when required.
