Are you an experienced Medical Secretary looking for your next opportunity within a dynamic team?
We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Medical Secretary Pathway Coordinator to join our Diabetes & Endocrinology Secretarial Team at Queens Hospital, Burton. You will play a key role in providing a professional, efficient and comprehensive medical secretarial service to consultants and their teams, supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Working closely with consultants, clinicians, administrative colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for managing a varied workload and ensuring patient pathways are effectively coordinated. The role requires a flexible and proactive approach, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across the service.
The successful candidate will be committed, adaptable and possess excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills. This post is 30 hours per week, with working days to be agreed locally; however, applicants must be available to work on Mondays.
Key Responsibilities
- To act as the point of contact for patients and medical staff on behalf of the consultant and the team ensuring that all queries are answered with skill, sensitivity and in a courteous and professional manner.
- Efficient management of the Consultants diary/rotas.
- VR voice recognition proof reading/some typing and despatch of clinical correspondence related to NHS medical patients within agreed timescales and quality standards.
- Ensure that urgent test results/correspondence is brought to the immediate attention of the Consultant or his/her team.
- Understanding of the 18-week RTT process and a knowledge of the Trust Patient Access Policy and an agreement to adhere to these policies according to National Trust Guidelines.
- Accurately informing patients/clinicians of outcomes and information to influence the effective service delivery for all patients including waiting list queries.
- Support management in the preparation and validation of the waiting lists and performance data in the team leader’s absence.
- Liaise effectively with wards and departments within the hospital.
- To escalate any urgent problems to a senior manager.
- Provide secretarial support/cover for colleagues during absence.
- Undertake necessary training as and when required.
