Diabetes Inpatient Specialist Nurse (DSN) - Band 6
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Diabetes Inpatient Specialist Nurse (DSN) to be at the forefront of driving up standards and quality in diabetes care within the Inpatient areas of Liverpool University Hospitals (Aintree Hospital) and The Walton Centre. Aintree Inpatient Diabetes Service has recently achieved DCAP accreditation. Part of the role is therefore aimed at continuing this success by participating in audit of the care given to patients within Aintree Hospital to suggest improvements in services to improve the overall quality of care and patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver complex educational packages to health care professionals and patients around effective diabetes management.
- Work in a variety of other clinical areas, outpatient clinics in the Diabetes Centre. This includes sub-specialist clinics e.g. pre-operative assessment clinic at The Walton Centre.
- Collaborate with the wider Diabetes team, including Nurse Consultant, Diabetes Specialist nurses, Diabetes specialist Dietitians, Podiatry team, and Consultant Diabetologists.
Requirements
- Clinical experience of working within the field of Diabetes.
- Awareness of and ability to work to evidence-based guidelines appropriate to the specialty.
Role and Support
- Act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the multi-professional team, patients, and carers within their Speciality Service.
- Develop the specialist area of practice in partnership with other members of the speciality team, working collaboratively to develop services and improve the quality of care delivered.
- Set standards of care, assess care needs, and develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care, management, and education.
- Contribute to achieving the objectives of the clinical service group/specialty corporate objectives and work within the clinical governance framework.
- Achieve these objectives through core dimensions of the role, clinical practice, leadership, acting as the patient advocate, and through audit and education.
