About The Role

Based in Warmley, this full-time, permanent Diesel Generator Engineer position offers a salary between £31,000 and £40,000 per annum. Working Monday to Friday, the role involves servicing, maintaining, and repairing a range of generators and associated equipment. Duties occur primarily within the workshop, with occasional work at customer sites across the South West. The position demands hands-on mechanical expertise, including fault-finding on larger diesel engines. The successful candidate will perform routine maintenance on the rental fleet, adhere to manufacturer service schedules, and diagnose operational issues. Strong prior experience with diesel engines is essential for this role, which is being recruited by Pertemps South Wales.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Diesel Generator Engineer with a strong background working with diesel engines to join our team in the South West.

You will be responsible for servicing, maintaining and repairing a range of generators and associated equipment, both within the workshop and occasionally at customer sites. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong mechanical fault-finding skills and experience working on larger diesel engines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on generators within the rental fleet.
  • Follow manufacturer service schedules and maintenance requirements.
  • Diagnose and repair faults on customer equipment both in the workshop and on-site.
  • Work on large diesel engines, including engines such as Perkins and Cummins.
  • Assist with general yard duties, including loading and unloading equipment.
  • Operate forklift equipment when required.
  • Deliver and collect generators and ancillary equipment using company vehicles.
  • Refuel and prepare generators as part of the delivery and collection process.
  • Attend customer sites to carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs when required.
  • Participate in an on-call rota to support customers and equipment outside normal working hours.
  • Keep equipment clean and the workshop/yard maintained to a high standard.
  • Follow all company Health & Safety procedures and relevant industry standards.
  • Support ongoing improvements to maintenance processes and working practices.

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience working with diesel engines is essential.
  • Experience servicing, maintaining and repairing generators, plant, heavy machinery or similar equipment would be advantageous.
  • Relevant qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Diesel Fitting, Plant Maintenance or a similar discipline.
  • Apprenticeship-trained engineers are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working on larger diesel engines such as Perkins or Cummins would be highly beneficial.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Forklift experience would be advantageous.
