Digital Accessibility Project Assistant
Job Description
This post is for an assistant to the “Enhancing digital accessibility through students lived experience” project. The project assistant will contribute to instrument development, literature review, data collection (including conducting interviews), data analysis, and the design and development of the proposed video vignettes and project reporting. They will also act as a student partner within the project, contributing to co-presentation opportunities and scholarly outputs arising from the work.

Background
Durham Centre for Academic Development (DCAD) has received funding from the university’s EDI fund to undertake a project to investigate disabled students’ experiences of engaging with digital learning resources (e.g. text documents, presentations, videos, audio etc.) hosted within Blackboard and beyond, that support students’ learning during their studies.
Outcomes from this project will be used to inform the development of digital accessibility resources that will provide guidance to staff on best practice in providing inclusive and accessible digital materials for all students. In addition, students will be asked to contribute to the project by providing anonymous vignettes exploring their lived experience and how digital resources can improve, or hinder, their progress.

Hours
- The role is 6 hours / week, for 8 months (2/11/2026 – 30/06/2027).
- Rate of pay: £17.16 per hour
- Hybrid working / some in-person engagement expected
Key Responsibilities
- Design appropriate research instruments (questionnaire / interview questions)
- Data analysis
- Conduct research interviews
- Development of video resources

Requirements: Personal Specification
- Awareness of research methods
- Knowledge and/or experience of developing video resources.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- The ability to work flexibly, both independently and as part of a team.
- A high level of trustworthiness and discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
