Network Rail is at the heart of revitalising Britain’s railway. From Crossrail - Europe’s largest civil engineering project - to investment in world-class stations and major programmes of electrification, we are involved in some of the most ambitious and diverse ventures that this country has ever seen. We at Network Rail are dedicated to becoming one of Britain's best employers and believe this starts with placing the candidate at the heart of everything we do!

Job Purpose

Lead day-to-day operational delivery of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Incubator Accelerator delivery pod to align multi-disciplinary specialists and enable the timely development of high-quality AI and automation solutions within agreed architectural and governance frameworks.

As a Product-Orientated Delivery (POD) Lead, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Provide direction to the POD to deliver AI and automation outcomes aligned with organisational priorities, timelines, and quality standards, and enable effective decision-making to ensure timely execution of agreed initiatives.
  • Define approved requirements into prioritised and sequenced delivery plans to enable structured execution by the POD.
  • Maintain oversight and resolve delivery risks, issues and constraints, intervening decisively to protect outcomes and escalating material risks where required.
  • Prioritise work across the pod to ensure a sustainable delivery pace, optimal utilisation of resources, and alignment with broader programme commitments.
  • Orchestrate multidisciplinary inputs across data science, engineering, business analysis and governance functions to deliver integrated, production-ready solutions.
  • Oversee and deliver all AI and automation solutions within the POD in accordance with agreed architectural standards and enterprise governance processes.
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for the POD in engagements with business adopters, partners, and governance bodies, providing clear direction on scope, delivery confidence, and trade-offs.
  • Maintain compliance with established assurance, risk management and reporting processes.
  • Provide leadership, direction and development for POD members, fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture and building sustainable capability.
  • Evaluate capability and capacity requirements across the pod, identifying gaps and providing insight and recommendations to ensure continuity of delivery and long-term effectiveness.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
