Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) Digital and Technology Lead
The Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) function at GSK’s Irvine manufacturing site provides technical expertise in the industrial application of science, innovative technology and process to ensure that Drug Substances and Drug Products are understood and their product performance is enhanced throughout their product life cycle. MSAT entails all elements of the manufacture, testing and supply process.
Job Purpose
The Digital and Technology Lead drives the adoption of industry recognised Digital and Technology solutions across the Irvine site to ensure optimum performance and automated-corrective responses are in place. The aim is to ensure that technology is in place to measure process performance, provide deep data analysis and drive embedding solutions (including optimizing in-process controls).
This role encompasses the full manufacturing and supporting processes across the site (from simplifying technical transfer of Fermentation Strain - predictive scale-up - to highlighting purification performance improvements) through deep data analysis and leaning on process modelling to limit local experiments and simplify implementation of process change. You will programme manage the implementation of technological solutions to drive process productivity and seek transformational change of established production processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as voice of the customer on behalf of MSAT using and re-using data and evolving knowledge, capturing requirements and needs for building Product data and knowledge
- Provide a high level of technical expertise to site in the supply of data to support the standardisation, visualization, and improvement of business processes for Product Lifecycle Management including Continuous Process Verification, stability, validation, investigations, TRA, RCA, Product Performance Assessment (PPA), Continuous Improvement and Data Stewardship, as applied to manufacturing operations
- Define the business processes and associated benefits for use of data, information and analytics. Link these to the site aims and escalate projects to fill any gaps
- Keep up to date with technologies and capabilities that utilise data and information to ensure the appropriate solutions are utilised to maximise business benefits
- Drive programmes of work for Fermentation productivity improvement by leveraging on latest technology and data capture/transfer
- Identify digital solutions for data capture and analysis – e.g. equipment cleaning validation and positive confirmation of standards adhered to
- Drive the use of digital by first intent through process modelling (e.g. mechanistic and empirical) and engage Global MSAT statistics and modelling teams for support

About You
This role would suit a self-motivated person who has experience of working in a cross-functional, global supply organisation. You will have strong people-management skills, including a proven ability to influence people to achieve goals (as you will work closely with a wide range of teams, colleagues, senior-stakeholders). You will also have a strong continuous improvement mindset. Knowledge and previous interaction with Global MSAT and other support functions would be advantageous.

Basic Qualifications
- Relevant degree (eg; Scientific, Technical or Engineering) or strong relevant experience.
- Relevant working experience in delivery of technical standards / solutions with proven application (eg; data-analysis and optimisation, or validation and change management, or product and process optimisation, process modelling, etc).
