About Hackney
Hackney is one of the most dynamic and progressive local authorities in the UK. We are a resilient, vibrant, and creative borough in the heart of London, with strong, diverse communities and a powerful set of shared values.
Over the past twenty years, the Council has built up first-class services, outstanding public infrastructure, and a reputation for excellence, innovation, and ambition. We are leading the way on essential work such as our fight for equity in Hackney with a particular focus on becoming an actively anti-racist borough. But the work doesn’t stop there, we are proactive in our approach to bringing fairness to all aspects of life including gender, neurodiversity, and across the poverty divide.
About the Role
The Communications and Engagement and Young Hackney services are looking for a dedicated digital communications professional with a passion for great content to join our team.
Responsibilities
As Digital Communications Officer, you will provide support to the Young Hackney service with digital communications and campaigns, ensuring we are talking to and engaging our young residents and parents on the channels they use most, with content that resonates with them.
- Support the Young Hackney service, delivering content and campaigns to promote the service offering and ensure young people get the most out of it.
- Time is split across digital channels, with a particular focus on social media (TikTok and Instagram), digital advertising, web and email marketing.
- Evaluation is key in understanding how our communications perform, so there will also be an element of reporting to the role.
- Bring expertise and creativity to the team to develop Young Hackney’s channels.
- Be proactive and quick to learn new skills, able to keep on top of a complex and constantly changing landscape.
- Work with a diverse set of stakeholders, from politicians to our young residents to senior officers, with the ability to sell-in ideas to meet our communication objectives, in particular for video content.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
