Job Details
Alan Mak MP is looking for a hardworking, skilled, and motivated Digital & Communications Officer based in his Constituency Office in Havant, Hampshire (with travel to Westminster as required). The role is full-time (5 days per week), not a job share, and cannot be done remotely.
Experience and skills in video (filming, editing, and captioning), social media, and producing graphics/digital products are essential, including competency with software such as Abode InDesign, Premiere Pro, Canva, or similar.
The successful candidate will be responsible for shooting, editing, and producing compelling content for use across social media platforms, printed literature, and more. You should have a deep understanding of digital storytelling and be fluent in platform-specific formats and trends.
The role also requires a flexible attitude and the ability to manage projects and workload. An ideal candidate will be familiar with Alan’s constituency and/or the region, and have knowledge of local issues, but this is not a requirement. Previous experience in a similar role, or experience of working in media, journalism, PR, or video editing, is strongly preferred.

Main duties include, but are not limited to:
- Creating campaigns, telling stories, and driving engagement;
- Producing video and photo content for social media and website;
- Drafting press releases, and supporting on engagement with media;
- Producing e-newsletter and other materials on constituency issues and the MP’s work;
- Monitoring media coverage and social media channels;
- Organising constituency visits and assisting with local projects.
Skills and qualities required:
- Competency with video and photo editing software (such as Abode InDesign, Premiere Pro, or similar), desktop publishing, and graphic design;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Be politically aware, with an interest in current affairs;
- Understanding and experience with various social media platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube;
- Full, clean driving licence, and access to own vehicle;
- Be sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party.

Interview date: We may appoint before the closing date if the right candidate is identified. This is a rolling recruitment process with applications considered as they are received.
Start date: By mutual agreement, but ideally within 1 month of appointment.
