The Role
Job Title: Digital Content Designer
Salary Range: £40,260 to £54,507 per annum
Permanent - Fulltime
Location: Twickenham or Civic Centre and Wandsworth Town Hall
Other essential information: Up to 3 days working in the office
Objective of Role
We are recruiting a skilled Digital Content Designer to join our team, responsible for providing digital services for both Richmond and Wandsworth Councils.
You will deliver high quality, accessible digital content that is driven by user needs. You will write, edit and publish content across our digital channels, with an aim to provide the best possible customer journey.
This will be focused across both Council websites, as well as our corporate intranet, where your work will help maximise internal staff engagement.
The role will require you to make complex language and processes easier to understand. You will work with subject matter experts to make sure content is accurate, and you will be able to explain your decisions and edits clearly to those who don’t recognise good web usability.
About The Role
Content Design and Delivery
- Create, maintain, and improve accessible, user-centred content across Richmond and Wandsworth Council websites, ensuring it meets content design standards, accessibility requirements, and best practice.
User Experience And Continuous Improvement
- Use analytics, user research, and customer feedback to improve user journeys, website structure and content effectiveness, helping residents find and complete tasks more easily.

Digital Services and Online Forms
- Design and develop online forms and digital services, working with stakeholders to gather requirements, create content and deliver effective online transactions.
Stakeholder Support and Collaboration
- Work closely with council services to understand their needs, provide content advice and training, and lead regular content reviews to ensure online information remains accurate, relevant and user focused.
Website Operations and Quality Assurance
- Support the day-to-day management of both councils' websites, including content updates, news publishing and customer enquiries, while maintaining high standards of quality, accessibility and continuous improvement.
Essential Qualifications, Skills And Experience
- Experience of writing for the web and producing online content in a public sector or digital media context.
- Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills
- Writing for the web and Plain English
- Content design
- Excellent time management and the ability to manage competing deadlines
- Educated to degree level or relevant industry experience
