JOB TITLE: Digital Content Lead (Social Media Manager)

CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed-term Contract, Full-time (9 months Parental leave cover)

DEPARTMENT: BBC Studios Audio

LOCATION: BBC Television Centre, LONDON - Hybrid

SALARY: £48,000 Plus London weighting. The salary for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

START DATE: 5th October 2026

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Digital Content Lead in BBC Studios Audio. This new role will report directly to the Commercial & Business Development Director and will support our podcast production teams in developing and producing social-first video content that extends the reach of our podcasts via fully visualised episodes and short form clips and digital assets.

The role will act as the editorial lead for one or more social media accounts within BBC Studios Audio, delivering a coherent, consistent social media experience for audiences, ensuring each account delivers on the agreed social strategy, maximises engaged reach with the account's target audiences, delivers content of the highest creative quality, delivers commercial objectives for sponsors and advertisers and drives traffic around the BBC Studios Audio commercial portfolio.

This is key commercial role in the central Audio team, working with production teams who deliver a breadth of outstanding content, from impactful investigative serials such as To Catch A King and Things Fell Apart; long running prestige Radio 4 series such as Desert Island Discs and In Our Time; and an extensive slate of award-winning Comedy and Drama output. The Audio Unit has a mission to create and deliver compelling, premium audio to a wide-ranging global audience.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact

  • Work with audio production teams to develop, produce, film and edit long- and short-form video content around select podcasts, collaborating closely with ad sales, marketing, media planning and distribution teams.
  • Produce visual podcast episodes and social-first video content, optimising assets for digital platforms through editing, captioning, motion graphics and platform-specific formatting.
  • Lead the editorial publishing strategy across social channels, including content planning, scheduling, targeting and YouTube optimisation, ensuring activity supports commercial and audience growth objectives.
  • Support and upskill production teams in visual content creation, providing guidance on production workflows and best practice in partnership with the Head of Production.
  • Line manage and develop a Digital Executive, overseeing workload, priorities and professional development.
  • Build strong relationships with talent, influencers, brands and internal stakeholders to maximise audience engagement and support content launches and campaigns.
  • Use audience insights, performance data and industry trends to evaluate activity, inform strategy, identify opportunities for innovation and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all social activity is compliant with BBC editorial, advertising and governance standards, including community management and the responsible use of AI.

Essential Criteria

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proven experience creating and delivering social media content strategies, managing communities, and using analytics to inform decision-making.
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience producing social-first and long-form video content, including filming, editing, adding graphics/effects, and publishing across digital platforms.
  • Strong understanding of podcast production and distribution, with a passion for audio and video storytelling.
  • Ability to lead and influence stakeholders at all levels, driving new initiatives and contributing to strategic thinking.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing demands.
  • Excellent understanding of audience behaviours across platforms and devices, using insights to shape content and engagement strategies.
