Purpose
Hospitality and Hope is one of South Tyneside’s leading food insecurity, homelessness and community wellbeing charities.
The Digital Co-ordinator will work as an integral part of our staff team, leading the development of H&H’s digital presence, strengthening how we connect, communicate and engage with our communities, supporters, partners and wider audiences. The role will help increase awareness and understanding of our work, extend our reach and ensure the impact we make across South Tyneside is communicated effectively.
Central to the role will be the development and delivery of our social media strategy, creating engaging and relevant content that brings our work to life, shares the stories of the people and communities we work alongside and demonstrates the difference we make.
The postholder will take a coordinated approach across our social media, website and wider digital platforms, ensuring our communications are aligned and consistently reflect our brand, values and what we stand for, while supporting the effective use of digital technology to strengthen how we connect with our communities and work across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media & Digital Communications
- Lead the development, delivery and ongoing review of H&H’s social media strategy and delivery plan, maintaining a coordinated content calendar that ensures regular, relevant and engaging communications across our digital channels.
- Create engaging and accessible content across a range of formats, including written posts, photography, graphics and short-form video, working collaboratively with colleagues to bring our work, people, communities and impact to life.
- Maintain and develop H&H’s website, ensuring content is accurate, relevant and up to date and aligned with our social media activity, brand, key messages and organisational priorities.
- Plan and coordinate digital communications around our services, key milestones, events, developments and seasonal activities, ensuring our website and social media channels consistently reflect H&H’s brand, values, key messages and tone of voice.
- Grow and strengthen engagement with our communities, supporters, partners and wider audiences, keeping pace with emerging digital trends and using analytics and insight to understand performance and continually improve our approach.
- Champion good practice across digital communications, coaching and supporting colleagues to confidently create and share appropriate social media content, while ensuring consistency with H&H’s brand, key messages and tone of voice and compliance with consent, safeguarding, confidentiality, data protection and GDPR requirements.
Digital Inclusion
- Build and maintain relationships with the Good Things Foundation and other relevant partners, stakeholders and organisations, securing resources and developing opportunities that enhance H&H’s digital inclusion offer.
- Coordinate the delivery of digital inclusion support across H&H, including access to SIMs and other digital resources, helping people access essential services, overcome digital barriers and become more connected, confident and independent.

IT Support & Coordination
- Act as the first point of contact for colleagues experiencing IT-related issues and as H&H’s main day-to-day liaison with our third-party IT provider, resolving straightforward problems where possible and escalating issues appropriately.
- Support the coordination of equipment, system access and other routine IT requirements, helping colleagues make effective use of organisational technology and minimising disruption to the team.
- Promote good practice in relation to cyber security, data protection and the safe use of IT, identifying recurring issues and practical opportunities to improve our systems and digital ways of working.
Digital Sales
- Work closely with our Charity Shop Supervisors to develop H&H’s digital sales channels, including eBay and Vinted, identifying appropriate donated items and creating high-quality online listings.
- Support the effective management of digital listings, sales and customer enquiries, developing simple and efficient processes between our charity shops and online platforms.
- Identify opportunities to grow our digital sales presence, maximise the value of appropriate donated goods and ensure H&H is represented professionally and consistently across online marketplaces.
Working as part of the H&H Team
- Work collaboratively across H&H, building positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers, members, partners and other stakeholders and contributing ideas and digital expertise to the continued development of the organisation.
- Participate actively in team meetings, training and personal development, representing H&H externally where appropriate.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties that contribute to the successful delivery of the role and the wider aims of H&H.
About You
We are looking for someone who is creative, digitally confident and passionate about using digital communications to connect with people and bring the work of H&H to life in a compelling and engaging way.
You Will Ideally Have
- Experience of managing social media channels, website content and creating engaging digital content across a range of formats.
- A good understanding of social media platforms, audiences, digital trends and the use of insight to improve reach and engagement.
- Strong communication and creative skills, with the ability to identify and develop stories that demonstrate the work and impact of H&H.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to plan, manage priorities, work proactively and use your own initiative.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to coach, support and develop colleagues in their use of social media and digital platforms, helping build digital confidence and capability across the organisation.
- The ability to build positive and effective relationships with colleagues across H&H and with external partners, stakeholders and service providers, working collaboratively to develop opportunities and achieve shared outcomes.
- Strong digital and IT capability, with confidence using a range of systems, platforms and website content management tools, together with the ability to troubleshoot straightforward IT issues and work effectively with external IT support.
- Experience of, or a good working knowledge of, digital sales and online marketplaces, with the ability to create effective listings, manage online activity and work collaboratively with our Charity Shop team to develop platforms such as eBay and Vinted.

Job Features
- Salary: £13.76 per hour. Paid on the 28th day of each month.
- Hours: 28 hours per week (plus a 30-minute unpaid break each day)
- Working Pattern: Monday - Thursday each week.
- Location: South Tyneside
- Leave Entitlement: 28 days (pro-rata), plus Bank Holidays.
- Probation: 6 Months
- Notice: 1 Month
- Absence: You must comply fully with Hospitality and Hope Absence Management Policy
- Pension: You will be auto enrolled into the company pension scheme unless you formally opt out in writing. Employee 5% contribution. Employer 3% contribution.
- Flexibility: The post holder will be required to work flexibly, as an example, but not limited to; attending meetings, covering the absence of colleagues.
