Salary: Grade 11, ranging from £32,597 - £36,363 per annum
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Contract: We are recruiting to two full-time positions: one permanent and one 18-month fixed-term contract

About the Role

As a Digital Design & Development Officer, you'll help research, analyse, design, develop and improve the council's digital services and platforms. Working closely with colleagues across the organisation, you'll create user-centred, accessible solutions, enhance online experiences and support the delivery of key transformation initiatives.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on meaningful projects that improve how residents, businesses and communities access council services, while playing a key role in Somerset Council's ambitious transformation programme.

How You'll Make a Difference

We're looking for people who are passionate about improving services through digital, design and transformation.

  • You will design, build and test public forms, transactions, and automations used for essential council services.
  • Design, deliver and maintain digital frontend solutions and backend automation that improve customer experience and service efficiency.
  • Work with teams across the council to understand needs and identify opportunities for digital improvement.
  • Create accessible, user-friendly content and digital experiences that meet a wide range of user needs.
  • Understand and utilise user feedback, research and performance data to continuously improve services.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience designing, developing or improving digital products.
  • Good understanding of user-centred design, UX principles and digital accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of web technologies, content management systems such as WordPress, and digital best practices.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to inform decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Balance creativity with delivery and real-world outcomes.
