About the Role
As a Digital Development Engineer, you will work with internal stakeholders to identify automation and AI opportunities that improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of engineering and business support activities.
The role would be suitable for a graduate or early-career candidate with proven experience alongside an interest in software development, automation, and applied AI. Applications from candidates with a broader range of experience will also be considered where their skills and interests align with the role.
This role will support the development of internal automation and AI-enabled tools that improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of Premtech’s engineering and business workflows. Working with developers, engineers, and design assurance colleagues, the successful candidate will help turn practical business needs into reliable digital solutions.
Responsibilities
With support and mentorship, you will:
- Assist in building, improving, and maintaining internal automation tools used by engineering and business support teams
- Contribute to software solutions that streamline engineering and CAD workflows
- Support the integration of AI capabilities into existing internal systems
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Assist with testing, deployment, and ongoing improvements of internal tools
- Learn and follow established development patterns and standards
- Keep up to date with modern software development practices and technologies

You will have:
- A full UK driving licence
- The right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal & written
- Graduate or early-career software developer in a relevant discipline, or able to demonstrate equivalent practical experience
- Experience with at least one programming language (e.g. Python, C#, JavaScript)
- Basic knowledge of databases (e.g. SQL, PostgreSQL)
- Basic understanding of software development fundamentals including cyber security best practices
- Interest in automation, problem-solving, and improving workflows
- Willingness to learn domain-specific systems (e.g. engineering / CAD tools)
Desirable (but not essential):
- Exposure to scripting, automation, or internal tooling
- Awareness of AI concepts (e.g. APIs, data processing, basic ML usage)
- Experience working on small software projects or coursework
- Experience working as part of a development team including version control such as Git
