I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Working as part of the Digital team and supporting the Digital Experience Manager, you’ll help deliver the University’s social media marketing strategy - creating engaging, creative and purposeful content that reaches prospective students and supports them throughout their journey with us.
You’ll play a hands-on role in planning and delivering both organic and paid social media activity, using audience insight, creativity and performance data to make our campaigns more effective. You’ll have the opportunity to experiment with new approaches, understand what works, and continually improve the way we use social media to achieve our objectives.
Your work will primarily support student recruitment, while also helping us engage current students, staff, academics, alumni, our local community and the wider public. You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across the University to turn ideas, stories and priorities into compelling digital content and campaigns.
This is a role for someone who combines creative thinking with a data-driven approach. You’ll be comfortable developing content for different social platforms, contributing to campaigns from planning through to evaluation, and using insight and performance metrics to inform what you do next.
We’re looking for someone with demonstrable professional experience of planning, creating and delivering organic and paid social media campaigns, ideally gained within a digital marketing environment. You’ll have experience creating engaging content for social platforms, using audience insight and performance data to inform activity, and evaluating and optimising campaigns to achieve marketing objectives. A degree or equivalent professional experience is desirable.
