DIGITAL MARKETING MANAGER
Ambleside, Cumbria | Hybrid – 3 days in the office | £40,000 + excellent progression opportunity
Ready for your next step?
You've built a solid marketing career. You know how to run campaigns, write great copy, brief creative and get things done. But perhaps you're starting to feel that you've reached the ceiling in your current role.
If you're looking for a role where you can take ownership, broaden your skills and make a visible difference, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.
Lakeland Leather is looking for an energetic, commercially minded Marketing Manager to help shape and grow our brand as we enter an exciting new phase of digital-first growth.
Based at our Head Office in Ambleside, in the heart of the Lake District, you'll work closely with our Ecommerce Trading Manager, Managing Director and teams across Buying and Retail. It's a varied, hands-on role where you'll see your ideas move quickly from a conversation to a campaign, a photoshoot, an email, a shop window or a customer experience.
And because we're a relatively lean team, you won't be a small cog in a big machine. You'll have genuine ownership and plenty of opportunity to learn, experiment and take on more.
What you'll be doing
You'll have a broad remit across brand, campaigns, content and retail marketing, including:
- Campaigns: Plan and deliver seasonal campaigns across our website, email, social, print and stores.
- Brand: Help shape and protect the Lakeland Leather brand, tone of voice and customer experience across every touchpoint.
- Content & creative: Set the campaign and content calendar, brief creative and coordinate photography and video shoots.
- Retail: Bring campaigns to life in our stores through visual merchandising, point-of-sale, launches and promotional activity.
- Copywriting: Write compelling, on-brand copy for websites, email, social, print and in-store communications.
- Paid media: Brief our retained agency on paid social and search creative, challenge the work and make sure it delivers against campaign objectives.
- Digital & CRM: Work closely with Ecommerce and CRM to ensure campaigns translate into effective online trading and customer communications.
- Partnerships: Help develop our influencer and partnership activity.
- Performance: Track campaign results, understand what worked (and what didn't) and use the insight to improve what we do next.
- Budget: Keep a close eye on marketing spend and make sure we're getting value from our investment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone with drive, energy and ambition who wants to make their mark.
You'll probably have around 3–5 years' marketing experience, ideally in retail, fashion, lifestyle or another consumer brand. More important than the number of years on your CV is what you've actually done and the level of responsibility you've taken.
You'll be someone who:
- Is highly organised and can keep multiple projects, agencies and deadlines moving at once.
- Is a strong communicator and writer, with a natural feel for brand and storytelling.
- Is commercially minded and interested in what marketing actually does for sales and profit.
- Is confident taking ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do.
- Has plenty of ideas—but also has the practical ability to turn them into reality.
- Enjoys working collaboratively with people across different parts of a business.
- Is comfortable getting stuck into the detail when required.
- Wants to keep learning and isn't afraid to try something new.

Why Lakeland Leather?
We're a British brand with a heritage stretching back to 1955, but we're not standing still.
We're investing in our digital business, developing our ecommerce operation and thinking differently about how we connect with customers online and in our stores.
That creates an unusual opportunity for the right person. You'll have the security and heritage of an established business, but the freedom, variety and pace of a much smaller marketing team.
You'll work directly with senior people, see the impact of your work and have the opportunity to grow your role as you grow your skills.
If you're ambitious, curious and ready to take the next step, we'd like to hear from you.
What you'll get
- £40,000 salary, with excellent opportunity for progression as you develop
- Hybrid working – 3 days a week at our Ambleside Head Office
- 28 days' annual leave including Bank Holidays
- Aviva company pension scheme
- 37.5-hour week with flexible daily working hours
- Generous Lakeland Leather staff discount
- Free parking
- Electric vehicle charging at discounted rates
- Your birthday off – although we'll expect cake in return!
- And, of course, wonderful views of the Langdale Fells from the office
