Job Description
Purpose of the Role
To create best in class user experiences that are aligned to customer needs and drive optimal commercial and customer outcomes. Creating products and journeys that meet customers informational, functional and emotional needs.
Accountabilities
- Conceptualisation, Design, and Implementation: Conceptualisation, design and implementation of user-centric digital banking products and experiences, ensuring alignment with customer needs, industry best practices and business objectives. Monitoring impact of design post launch through relevant CX metrics.
- Collaboration: Collaboration with cross-functional teams including product managers, developers, business analysts to translate business requirements into compelling user experiences. Efficiently communicate design rationale and advocate for user-centred design principles. Advocate and champion Design Principles within the organisation.
- Development: Development of interactive prototypes and wireframes to visualise design concepts and validate solutions. Iterate designs based on feedback, incorporating changing technical and business requirements and user feedback.
- Evaluation: Evaluation of the technical feasibility, legal compliance, and potential risks associated with the development and launch of the new product. Securing governance oversight and providing design assurance.
- User Research and Testing: User research, usability testing and data analysis to gather insights in user behaviour, preferences and pain points. Utilise findings to inform design decisions and enhance the overall user experience and translate these into commercial and customer outcomes.
- Staying Informed: Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies and design tools within the fintech and banking industry. Proactively identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in product design processes, tools and methodologies.

- Act as contact point for stakeholders outside of the immediate function, while building a network of contacts outside team and external to the organisation.

Join Us
Join us as a Digital Product Designer at Barclays where you'll be responsible for translating business requirements and customer needs into intuitive, user-centred design solutions that deliver meaningful product experiences. You'll create user flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes, applying User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design principles to ensure products are usable, accessible, and engaging. Using customer feedback, research, and data-driven insights, you'll identify opportunities for improvement and inform design decisions throughout the product lifecycle. You'll also collaborate with stakeholders across the business, confidently challenging assumptions and advocating for the best outcomes for both users and the product.

Essential Skills
- Proven experience in Digital Product Design and/or User Experience (UX) Design
- Great proficiency in Figma for designing, prototyping, and collaboration
- Demonstrated ability to translate customer needs and business requirements into effective, user-centred design solutions
- Understanding of User Experience (UX) principles, design thinking, and human-centred design methodologies
- Experience creating and delivering: user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, information architecture artefacts
- Experience working within multidisciplinary product teams
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with developers, software engineers, product managers, product owners, and other key stakeholders
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Great communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge ideas constructively and advocate for the best user and business outcomes
- Portfolio showcasing end-to-end product design work is required
Highly Valued Skills
- Understanding of user research methodologies and user-centred design practices
- Experience facilitating and/or participating in user research activities, including interviews, usability testing, and feedback sessions
- Exposure to analytics and data-driven design approaches, using customer insights and performance data to inform design decisions
- Understanding of accessibility standards, inclusive design principles, and creating experiences that are accessible to a diverse range of users
- Experience using AI tools to support and enhance the design process
- Interest in exploring innovative ways of working and experimenting with AI-enabled design techniques
- Previous experience within Financial Services, Banking, or Mortgages, Savings, and/or Insurance environments
- Degree in Product Design, User Experience (UX) Design, or a related design discipline
You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.
This role can be based in either Manchester, London, Knutsford or Northampton.
