Almost 50 years ago, a pumpkin grower from the village of Slindon in West Sussex created a colourful mural using the fruits of his labour for the village to enjoy.
Now in his memory, Ralph Upton’s son Robyn continues the tradition each year on the farm, which has been dubbed the pumpkin capital of the UK.

Each autumn, visitors come from around the world to admire the work, which uses more than 70 varieties of pumpkins, gourds, and squash.
This year’s display commemorates the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s Shoreham lifeboat with a replica of their latest lifeboat, Tamar Class RNLI 16-15.
Heavy rainfall in August has affected this year’s pumpkin crop around the UK with yields down by about 50%.
