AgriChatUK
Overview
In 2011, a small team of agriculture enthusiasts came together with the idea to connect farmers across the UK through social media and facilitate discussions on various topics.
Mission
AgriChatUK aims to allow everyone involved in the industry to discuss, debate, share, and connect on a weekly basis.
Founders and Growth
With four co-founders from different parts of the country, including Charles Tassell, who farms on the edge of the Weald of Kent, and Edward Morgan, who grew up on a sheep farm in South Wales, the group has grown significantly, now boasting nearly 13,000 followers.
Achievements
AgriChatUK has successfully raised awareness for the industry, including appearances on BBC Radio 1, which attracted young audiences and promoted working in farming.
Topics Covered
The weekly chat covers a range of topics from Defra’s performance and the future of the sheep industry to lighter subjects such as football during the recent World Cup.

Schedule

New Venture: EnviroChatUK
Last week, AgriChatUK announced a new monthly venture called EnviroChatUK, which will focus on linking agriculture with the growing concern for a sustainable future.
Hosts
EnviroChatUK will be hosted by AgriChatUK co-founder Charles and Oliver Dowding, an organic farmer in Somerset and a trustee of the Soil Association Council.
Goals
The new discussion group aims to engage a more diverse audience, including consumers, environmental organizations, and farmers, encouraging them to share ideas for the future of agriculture and the environment.
Schedule
EnviroChatUK will take place on the third Thursday of every month, with the first discussion today focusing on ‘The Square Meal Report’, a document highlighting the need for major changes to national food and farming policy.

Engagement on Twitter
Twitter has become a popular platform for farmers to share information, advice, and connect with others. Many farming-related hashtags have emerged, including #TeamDairy, #ClubHectare, and most recently, #SheepUK.

To get involved with AgriChatUK or any of the other groups mentioned, search the relevant hashtag on Twitter and start participating. The groups are very welcoming, and it is simple to create a Twitter account if you don’t already have one.
Conclusion
With over 16,000 tweets, AgriChatUK has gained significant traction. Participating has been enjoyable, allowing for connections with fellow tweeters and looking forward to a future in farming.
