Location: Portsmouth
Hours: Full time, Mon - Fri, 0900 - 1700hrs
Working Pattern: Hybrid - primarily office-based, with flexibility for remote working.
About the Role
A critical role ensuring SeaBot Maritime’s IT and cyber infrastructure meets industry-leading standards while driving innovation in cyber security solutions for internal and external projects. This position involves a blend of technical, strategic, and operational responsibilities, ranging from IT management to the development of training courses, simulation systems, and external client support services. Simulation is a core element of the role, spanning the operation of and training delivery on simulators, alongside oversight of the control system integrations that underpin them. The role provides the opportunity to develop a distinct cyber division within SeaBot Maritime.
Key Responsibilities
Internal Projects
- Retain and oversee ongoing compliance with existing Cyber Essentials accreditation.
- Scope the requirements for progressing further up the compliance ladder towards Cyber Essentials Plus, meeting the requirements of the MODs Level 1 Cyber Risk Profile (Defence Standard 05-138) and ISO27001.
- Develop and maintain virtual environments, within Microsoft Teams or through an alternative platform (as agreed), to enhance customer collaboration and engagement.
- Oversee the maintenance and redesign of the SeaBot Maritime and MASSPeople websites.
- Support development of LMS solutions to enhance client engagement.
External Projects
- Identify and evaluate potential projects and tenders aligned with SeaBot Maritime’s expertise.
- Actively engage with current and prospective research projects with a focus on cybersecurity elements.
- Provide technical expertise for projects including IMO MASS Code drafting and simulation development and long-term support.
- Develop penetration testing protocols to validate and secure systems against cyber threats.

IT & Cybersecurity Management
- Manage IT infrastructure including hardware and software licenses.
- Act as administrator for the SharePoint system, overseeing Users and the File Plan.
- Ensure GDPR compliance from an IT perspective and maintain relevant registrations (ICO, databases, etc.).
- Manage and maintain the company’s corporate WireGuard VPN.
Training Development & Delivery
- Design and teach cyber security modules as part of broader courses, ultimately obtaining MCA accreditation.
- Develop cyber security related modules for the MASS Certified Professional Training Scheme.
- Operate and deliver training on simulators, and oversee or project manage the integration of various control systems.
Technical Support
- As required support networking and maintenance elements of USV operations.
What we are looking for
We’re looking for someone with a strong foundation in IT and cyber security who is comfortable working across technical, operational and project-based environments. You’ll be proactive, curious and keen to develop your expertise as the role and SeaBot Maritime’s cyber capability grow.
You should have:
- Proven experience in IT, cyber security or a related technical environment.
- A sound understanding of cyber security principles, threats, vulnerabilities and risk mitigation.
- Experience supporting IT infrastructure, networked systems and digital platforms.
- Working knowledge of GDPR and data protection requirements.
- Experience administering collaboration or document management platforms.
- Experience developing or delivering technical or specialist training to a range of audiences.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical information for non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
- A self-motivated, adaptable and collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, clients and external partners.

Experience or qualifications in the following areas would be advantageous:
- Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001 or MOD cyber security standards.
- Recognised cyber security qualifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISM or CISSP.
- Maritime, defence, autonomous systems or other highly regulated technology sectors.
- Simulation systems, control systems or systems integration.
- Penetration testing, vulnerability assessment or security testing.
- Research, innovation or technology development projects.
- Learning Management Systems, e-learning or digital learning.
- Website or digital platform development.
- AI applications within cyber security or maritime operations.
- Recognised training qualifications, such as Train the Trainer, or willingness to work towards MCA accreditation.
