Digital Workplace Lead Engineer
6-Month Contract
ASAP Start
Hybrid (2-3 days per week onsite in London or Edinburgh)
£425-£440 per day (Inside IR35)
We are currently seeking an experienced Digital Workplace Lead Engineer to join a major transformation programme within the banking and financial services sector. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in designing, delivering, and enhancing a modern digital workplace environment for a large-scale enterprise organisation.
Working at the forefront of workplace technology, you will lead initiatives focused on Microsoft 365, endpoint management, identity services, security, and automation, helping to improve employee productivity, collaboration, and digital experience across the organisation. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge Microsoft technologies while driving large-scale workplace transformation projects within a highly regulated environment.
The Role
As a Digital Workplace Lead Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across modern workplace platforms, ensuring secure, scalable, and innovative solutions are delivered to support business objectives. You will act as a subject matter expert across Microsoft 365 technologies while leading strategic engineering initiatives and supporting enterprise-wide transformation programmes.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering, implementation, and optimisation of Microsoft 365 services, including Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and Viva.
- Own and enhance endpoint management solutions using Intune, Autopilot, and Windows device lifecycle management.
- Drive identity and security initiatives leveraging Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, Multi-Factor Authentication, and Microsoft Defender.
- Develop automation and service improvements using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, and Power Platform.
- Act as the technical lead for digital workplace transformation projects and major platform upgrades.
- Collaborate with architects, security teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver secure and scalable workplace solutions.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering teams.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex technical issues across the digital workplace estate.
- Ensure solutions align with security, compliance, and operational best practices.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve user experience, productivity, and platform performance.
Key Skills & Experience
- 5-10 years' experience as a Digital Workplace Engineer, Modern Workplace Engineer, or similar role.
- Strong Microsoft Teams SME expertise and extensive experience supporting enterprise-scale environments.
- Deep knowledge of Microsoft 365 technologies including Teams, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, OneDrive, and Viva.
- Strong expertise in Microsoft Intune, Windows endpoint management, and Autopilot.
- Proven experience with Microsoft Entra ID, identity management, access controls, and workplace security.
- Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation capabilities.
- Experience working with Microsoft Graph and Power Platform.
- Demonstrable track record of leading enterprise workplace transformation initiatives.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience within the Banking or Financial Services sector is highly desirable.

Desirable Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
- Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate
- ITIL Foundation (or equivalent)
