As Lead Tolerancing Engineer, you will provide technical and functional leadership across structural and systems design engineering, ensuring all product solutions strictly meet Design Authority requirements. Leading our dedicated Dimensional Management team, you will coordinate multi-functional activities across Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to define optimal, cost-effective product solutions that balance aircraft design principles with real-world production constraints. A key element of this role is coaching engineering talent and championing the critical value of advanced tolerancing across the wider A220 Multi-Functional Team (MFT)

How you will contribute to the team

  • Provide functional leadership and line management to a team of tolerancing engineers and support staff - recruiting, mentoring, and developing talent while maintaining technical leadership in innovative tolerancing solutions.
  • Apply advanced tolerancing solutions and complex toolsets to achieve the optimum balance between high performance and cost-effective manufacturing, supporting the airframe journey from early R&T through to the Belfast wing facility and Final Assembly Lines (FAL).
  • Collaborate seamlessly across Design, Stress, Aerodynamics, Manufacturing, and Quality departments in a digitalised environment, offering specialist expertise across Airbus Commercial programmes to reach optimal production compromises.
  • Take functional responsibility for engineering projects, ensuring technical deliverables and commitments are strictly met within agreed schedules, quality standards, and budgets while satisfying regulatory requirements.
  • Work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams to develop sound business solutions, negotiating effectively with customers, suppliers, internal departments, and regulatory authorities.

About you

Essential criteria

  • Possess a minimum of a BSc/BEng degree together with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant management/project management responsibility.
  • OR
  • Have lesser qualifications with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant management/project management responsibility.
  • Be able to demonstrate experience in dealing with senior management, customers, suppliers and Regulatory Authorities.
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to manage, motivate and advise a team working on specialist engineering issues and the ability to motivate staff in an environment of change.
  • Possess knowledge of ISO Tolerances annotation, 1D / 3D stack-up analysis and MECAMASTER/3DCS toolsets.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge and experience of metallic and composite structures.

  • Experience in Computer Aided Design, CATIA V5 would be an advantage.
  • Experience in supporting concessions would be an advantage.
  • Experience in manufacturing would be an advantage.
  • Project management skills would be an advantage.
