Position – Dimensional System Integration Engineer
Location – West Midlands
Dimensional System Integration Engineer
- The Dimensional Systems Integration team targets improving geometric integration of the product through engineering, prototype, and launch.
- DSI engineers will own dimensional requirements for a vehicle sub-system, such as Front End or Rear End and lead Product Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering teams to successful delivery of those targets.
- Using datum and locator strategy, geometric tolerancing, APQP/PPAP and FMA tools, Dimensional Variation Analysis, and 3D measurement techniques, the role will prove Bill of Design (BoD) and Bill of Process (BoP) compatibility to achieve functional, safety, clearance, gap, flush, taper, and symmetry targets.

- Although this role has no direct reports, it requires strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to interface with stakeholders from hourly paid levels through to Director level.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and visual, are a key requirement, including clear PowerPoint and Excel-based communication.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- During concept and early design phases, assess DVA concept “clay” vehicle models for complexity and anticipated quality issues, benchmarking against in-house vehicles and a specified competitor set.
- Lead programme teams of engineers to deliver effective use of virtual and physical tools and properties to support design development and validation from pre-IDJ to post J1 timings.
- Lead JLR Engineering, Process, Perceived Quality, and Supplier teams with build process selection and improvement plans.
- Liaise with suppliers on tolerance specification for PIA components and assemblies, locator and measurement point selection, and feedback tolerance specification data to PD, Stamping, Body Construction, and other functions.
- Drive and support design systems meetings to achieve a dimensionally optimised design, actively supporting cross-functional teams on daily dimensional management issues.
- Guide and support DVA engineers for tolerance analysis issues such as CDVR analysis, measurement data analysis, statistics, and functional measurements.
- Support prototype and launch activities through root cause analysis, control plans, and handover documentation required for production ramp-up.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Dimensional Management and Dimensional Variation Analysis (DVA).
- Body Construction or Final Assembly Manufacturing Engineering.
- Project management and coordination of multifunctional teams.
- BIW metrology.
- Tooling and fixture design.
- Comprehensive MS Office skills, especially Excel.
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
