Direct Fulfilment Supervisor (Weekends)

Reports to: Direct Fulfilment Manager
Working pattern: 37.5 hours across 4 days per week, including weekend working
The Role
The Direct Fulfilment Supervisor is a hands-on operational leader responsible for delivering safe, accurate and productive customer order fulfilment across picking, packing and dispatch. Leading a large team of operatives, you will turn the agreed plan into clear shift priorities, maintain pace throughout the day and ensure orders are completed to the required quality and service standards.
Working with a high level of autonomy at weekends, you will take ownership from the management handover, make sound operational decisions, resolve issues as they arise and provide a clear, accurate handback on Monday. Just as importantly, you will create an environment where people understand what good looks like, take pride in their work and are recognised for the energy and commitment they bring.
What you will be responsible for
- Lead the shift: Translate the operational plan and management handover into clear priorities, resource deployment and achievable team targets.
- Drive productivity: Maintain the pulse of the operation throughout the shift, using WMS data and floor observation to track progress, identify constraints and take timely action.
- Deliver service and accuracy: Ensure customer orders are picked, packed and dispatched accurately, safely and within agreed service commitments.
- Lead and engage people: Brief, coach and motivate a large team of operatives, setting clear expectations, giving regular feedback and recognising great contribution.
- Manage performance fairly: Address gaps in standards, attendance, conduct or capability promptly and consistently, escalating or partnering with management and People teams when required.
- Own weekend continuity: Operate confidently without close day-to-day supervision, protecting operational momentum and escalating material risks through the agreed channels.
- Manage handovers: Receive, clarify and act on the incoming handover, then provide a concise Monday handback covering output, backlog, people, stock, systems, incidents and required follow-up.
- Troubleshoot WMS and pick issues: Investigate failed or incomplete picks, stock or location discrepancies, scanner and workflow issues, resolving first-line problems and escalating effectively where needed.
- Apply sound stock-flow judgement: Balance workload across pick, pack and dispatch, working with Inventory, Administration and other DC teams to remove barriers and maintain flow.
- Plan resources: Allocate people to demand, flex the team as priorities change and ensure breaks, skills coverage and workload are managed effectively.
- Maintain standards: Ensure compliance with health and safety, security, loss prevention, housekeeping, quality and all relevant company procedures.
- Improve the operation: Identify recurring issues and practical opportunities to improve safety, accuracy, productivity, colleague experience and customer outcomes.

Experience and Knowledge
- Previous experience as a Supervisor or experienced Team Leader in a busy medium-sized or large distribution centre, warehouse or fulfilment operation.
- Proven experience leading sizeable operational teams in picking, packing and outbound fulfilment.
- Experience in a blended manual and automated warehouse environment.
- Confident user of a Warehouse Management System, with practical experience resolving pick, stock-flow or system-related exceptions.
- Strong understanding of productivity, accuracy, service, labour deployment and shift management in a fast-moving operation.
- Good working knowledge of warehouse health and safety, security, housekeeping and operational compliance.
- Confident and proficient using workplace IT, including WMS terminals or handheld devices, email and standard reporting tools.

- Resilient, flexible and comfortable working independently during weekend operations.
- Genuinely motivated by building pride in task, recognising effort and helping people perform at their best.
- Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English to support safe working, team leadership, system use and operational handovers.

Additional expectations
The role is based on site within a busy Distribution Centre and requires regular presence on the warehouse floor. The postholder will need to work the agreed four-day pattern, including weekends, and remain flexible when operational demand requires reasonable changes to priorities or hours. Duties may evolve in line with the needs of the operation, provided they remain appropriate to the level and purpose of the role.
