How You'll Make a Difference

As the lead specialist for Direct Payments, you will drive improvements in practice across Adult Social Care, ensuring compliance with the Council’s legal duty to offer Direct Payments. By supporting practitioners to confidently promote and use Direct Payments, simplifying processes, improving consistency and embedding best practice, you will help ensure direct payments are a viable, effective and positive option for people who draw on care and support and their carers. Working within the Adult Social Care Service, you will contribute to promoting the independence, choice and wellbeing of people across South Gloucestershire.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Providing specialist advice and expertise on Direct Payments, you will develop and maintain clear guidance, policies and procedures, ensuring they remain up to date, accessible and compliant.
  • It will be your responsibility to monitor national policy and legislative changes and translate these into local practice, embedding consistent, effective and legally compliant approaches across Adult Social Care.
  • You will design and deliver training and development opportunities to build confidence and capability across operational teams in relation to Direct Payments.
  • Drawing on your expertise, you will develop innovative solutions that promote best practice and drive continuous improvement.
  • Building strong working relationships with practitioners, managers, commissioners, finance colleagues and external providers, you will share learning, provide specialist advice and support consistent approaches to Direct Payments.
  • Using data and performance information, you will monitor and track any savings achieved, evaluating their impact, identifying opportunities for improvement and demonstrating value for money.

What We Need From You

  • It is essential that you have substantial experience within Adult Social Care and a strong knowledge of Direct Payments, including their practical application.
  • We require you to have a sound understanding of relevant legislation, including the Care Act, and the ability to apply this confidently in complex situations.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional development, you will maintain up-to-date knowledge of social care policy, emerging practice developments and sector best practice.
  • You will be confident in designing and delivering training and development opportunities, supporting workforce capability and continuous learning.
  • Given the elements of this role, you will have strong communication and influencing skills, enabling you to support, challenge and develop practice at all levels.
  • You will be digitally confident, with experience of systems such as Mosaic, SharePoint, Teams and Excel, and able to analyse information, identify trends and recommend practical solutions to improve services.

What You Need To Know

  • This is a 12 month limited term contract.
  • This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our offices in Yate and Kingswood and working from home.
  • We welcome applications from people who may have lived expertise of using Direct Payments as well as people who have supported those who do.
  • Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained.
