Direct Tax Manager
Lloyd’s is the world’s leading insurance and reinsurance marketplace. We bring together leading risk takers to share risk, solve complex problems and advance global progress.
We’re looking for a Direct Tax Manager to lead critical tax compliance, reporting and governance activity across the Corporation of Lloyd’s, its UK subsidiaries and our international network.
This is an opportunity to combine deep technical expertise with commercial influence. You’ll help us manage risk, support important business decisions and maintain trusted relationships across Lloyd’s and beyond.
What you’ll do
You’ll take ownership of our direct tax obligations and help shape how we manage tax risk across a complex global organisation.
You’ll:
- Lead the accurate and timely delivery of UK corporation tax returns, payments and associated compliance obligations.
- Manage wider group and global requirements, including Pillar Two, Country-by-Country Reporting and Corporate Interest Restriction.
- Lead group tax reporting, including tax provisions and supporting disclosures.
- Maintain effective governance and controls across our direct tax processes.
- Identify, document and escalate tax risks, issues and control weaknesses.
- Provide clear, commercially focused tax advice on projects, transactions and legislative developments.
- Oversee direct tax compliance and governance across our international network.
- Build productive relationships with HMRC, external advisers and stakeholders across Lloyd’s.
- Lead, coach and develop two colleagues within the Direct Tax team.
You’ll join a Tax function of around 40 colleagues and a Direct Tax team of five. The role has two direct reports.
What you’ll bring
You’ll have significant experience managing UK corporation tax compliance and reporting within a complex organisation or group.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You’ll also bring:
- Strong knowledge of UK corporation tax compliance and reporting.
- A broad understanding of relevant international direct tax matters.
- Experience reviewing work and coordinating external advisers.
- Confidence working with tax authorities and senior stakeholders.
- Experience providing technical tax input on business projects, transactions or advisory matters.

- The ability to explain complex tax matters clearly to both tax and non-tax audiences.
- Strong analytical skills and sound judgement when navigating complexity or ambiguity.
- The ability to manage competing priorities without losing accuracy or attention to detail.
- An inclusive leadership style, with experience delegating, coaching and helping others develop.
Experience of international tax compliance, including Pillar Two or Country-by-Country Reporting, would be valuable, but it isn’t essential. Knowledge of the insurance industry or the Lloyd’s market is also helpful, although you can develop this with us.
You’ll hold an ACA, CTA or similar professional qualification, such as ACCA or CIMA. We’ll also consider candidates with relevant experience who are willing to work towards an appropriate tax qualification.
