RKLSwims C.I.C.

RKLSwims C.I.C. is a South Wales Community Interest Company focused on improving access to swimming, water safety and inclusive aquatic activity.

We deliver community-focused swimming and water-safety initiatives and are currently developing plans for a dedicated community aquatic facility in South & West Wales.

As the organisation enters a significantly larger stage of development involving property, external funding, capital investment and major-project delivery, we are strengthening and broadening our Board to ensure strong independent oversight, constructive challenge and transparent decision-making.

RKLSwims C.I.C. operates separately from RKLSwims Education Ltd, which delivers commercial Learn-to-Swim activity. Strengthening the independence and skills of the CIC Board is an important part of our long-term governance structure.

Role Description

RKLSwims C.I.C. is recruiting up to three Independent Non-Executive Directors to join its Board. These are governance and strategic oversight roles rather than operational management positions.

Independent Directors will work alongside the existing Board to provide objective scrutiny, constructive challenge and specialist expertise as RKLSwims develops its proposed community aquatic facility and wider community programmes.

Board members will contribute to areas including organisational strategy, financial oversight, risk management, governance, property and capital-project decisions, funding, community impact and major related-party decisions.

Directors will be expected to act independently in the interests of RKLSwims C.I.C. and its community purpose.

The role is voluntary, with reasonable pre-approved expenses reimbursed.

Meetings are expected to be monthly during the facility development and mobilisation period, moving to at least quarterly once the organisation is established at its next stage. Meetings will generally be hybrid or online, with occasional meetings in South & West Wales.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Expected commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month, with potentially greater involvement around significant funding, property or project milestones.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Finance, accounting, audit or financial oversight
  • Social investment, funding or fundraising
  • Governance, company law, legal or regulatory compliance
  • Property, estates or commercial property
  • Construction, quantity surveying or capital-project delivery
  • Major-project or programme management
  • Risk management
  • Community development or social impact
  • Strategic leadership and organisational development

Previous Board experience is helpful but not essential. We welcome applicants who can demonstrate relevant professional, community or lived experience and are willing to understand and fulfil the statutory responsibilities of a company director.

What you will contribute

You will:

  • provide independent and constructive challenge to the existing Board;
  • help shape the CIC's long-term strategy and sustainability;
  • scrutinise financial, property, funding and major-project decisions;
  • support strong risk and governance arrangements;
  • help ensure CIC assets and funding continue to serve community benefit;
  • review significant related-party arrangements objectively;
  • contribute specialist knowledge and professional perspective;
  • declare and appropriately manage any conflicts of interest;
  • support accountable, evidence-led Board decision-making.

This is not an operational management role, and Independent Directors will not be expected to manage swimming lessons, staff rotas or routine administration.

Independence

Candidates should be able to exercise objective judgement solely in the interests of RKLSwims C.I.C. We are particularly seeking individuals who are independent of RKLSwims Education Ltd and who do not have material unmanaged interests that could compromise their ability to scrutinise CIC decisions objectively.
