Director – Accountancy Practice
Midlands
Salary: £100,000–£110,000 (negotiable) + bonus scheme + benefits
Cherry Professional is delighted to partner with an established and highly regarded firm of Chartered Accountants in the Midlands to appoint a Director to help lead the next phase of growth. This is a pivotal hire: you’ll take ownership of day-to-day operational leadership and client delivery, while driving new business and expanding the firm’s footprint both locally and further afield, enabling the Senior Partner to step away from day-to-day deliverables and focus on wider strategy and long-term growth.
The Opportunity
This role blends practice leadership, business development and high-value client advisory. You’ll be trusted to lead a busy team, strengthen client relationships, develop new revenue streams, and ensure technical excellence across accounts and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Business development & growth: Build and execute a robust growth plan, winning new clients and developing strategic referrer relationships across the Midlands and beyond.
- Leadership & operations: Lead, inspire and develop a high-performing team in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
- Client advisory: Provide proactive, commercial advice to owner-managed businesses and larger SMEs (e.g., performance improvement, structuring, profitability, cashflow, and growth planning).
- Quality & technical oversight: Oversee accounts and compliance delivery, ensuring high standards and strong governance.
- Signing responsibility: Be able to sign off accounts on behalf of the firm (or be close to obtaining signing/RI status and able to secure it quickly).
- Partner support: Take ownership of delivery so the Senior Partner can reduce day-to-day involvement and focus on strategy, culture, and expansion.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
