Director – Client Origination & Strategic Relationships

London

We are working with an international strategic advisory firm looking to appoint a senior client originator to help develop the next stage of its growth.

This is a highly commercial, relationship-led position for someone who has spent a significant part of their career developing senior relationships with major corporates, investors and other sophisticated clients.

We are particularly interested in people coming from investment banking, private equity, corporate advisory, professional services or another highly client-facing environment who have a demonstrable track record of originating business and building long-term relationships.

What matters is your ability to open doors, build credibility with senior decision-makers, understand where clients need external advice and turn relationships into meaningful commercial opportunities.

The Roles

The successful individual will take responsibility for both new client origination and the strategic development of the firm's existing relationships.

This will include:

  • Leveraging your existing network to introduce the firm to new corporate, private equity and other institutional clients.
  • Developing relationships with senior decision-makers, including CEOs, boards, investors, deal professionals, strategy teams and other senior stakeholders.
  • Identifying where the firm's capabilities can address a client's strategic or commercial needs and converting those opportunities into new mandates.
  • Taking a structured approach to the firm's existing and historical client base – identifying which relationships are active, which have further potential, which need to be re-engaged and where senior-level contact should be maintained.
  • Developing individual account strategies for priority relationships and ensuring that valuable client relationships remain active between individual assignments.
  • Identifying opportunities to broaden relationships across different teams, geographies and service lines.
  • Working closely with the firm's senior leadership and advisory teams to connect client needs with the right expertise.
  • Building a strong understanding of clients' businesses, sectors, strategic priorities and evolving challenges.
  • Representing the firm externally and developing a visible network across relevant corporate, investment and advisory communities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

This is not a passive relationship-management position.

We are looking for someone with the energy and commercial instinct to be out in the market – meeting people, developing relationships, opening doors and creating opportunities.

The Profile

You will likely have significant experience in a senior client-facing, origination or relationship-management position, potentially within:

  • Investment banking
  • Private equity / private capital
  • Corporate finance or M&A
  • Management or strategic consulting
  • Professional services
  • Corporate advisory
  • Another environment involving senior corporate or institutional client relationships

You may also have developed depth within an industry – for example energy, natural resources, technology, healthcare, industrials or another major corporate sector – and bring an established network within that market.

Of particular interest will be individuals who can demonstrate:

  • A substantial network of senior corporate, investment and professional relationships.
  • A genuine track record of originating new business rather than simply managing relationships handed to them.
  • The ability to develop trusted relationships with CEOs, boards, investors and other senior decision-makers.
  • Strong commercial judgement and an instinct for where a relationship could translate into business.
  • The ability to understand complex client problems and identify where specialist external advice could add value.
  • The confidence to re-engage dormant relationships and create reasons for clients to start conversations again.
  • High levels of energy, curiosity and initiative.
  • An entrepreneurial approach and an interest in helping grow a specialist international advisory business.

Why This Role?

This could be particularly interesting for someone who enjoys clients, relationships and origination, but is looking for something different from the environment of a major investment bank, private equity firm or large professional services organisation.

You will retain exposure to sophisticated global corporates, investors and senior decision-makers, but within a smaller and more entrepreneurial business where you can have a visible impact on the firm's development.

There is considerable work to be done, and this is not intended as a lifestyle role. The successful person will need to bring energy, ambition and a genuine appetite to build.

However, it offers the opportunity to do that in an environment with greater autonomy, flexibility and potentially a more sustainable working culture than many traditional investment banking or transaction-driven roles.

The position is based in London, with relationships and opportunities potentially spanning clients globally.

We are only able to respond to applicants whose backgrounds are relevant to the mandate or our broader remit. Applications not considered relevant will not be retained within our system.
