Director of Cloud Infrastructure – Sanity.io
Our AI Content Operating System accelerates digital development and optimises content operations for teams like SKIMS, Figma, Riot Games, Anthropic, COMPLEX, Nordstrom, and Morningbrew. Sanity’s infrastructure is evolving—we’re moving toward clearer ownership, stronger foundations, operational discipline, and a scalable architecture.
We’re hiring a Director of Cloud Infrastructure to lead these goals.
About the Opportunity
Sanity’s infrastructure faces immense scale:
- The Content Lake handles ~75,000 requests per second (4.5m/min)
- Critical production paths span CDN, edge, gateway, caching, object storage, and GCP infrastructure
This isn’t just window-dressing in motion—we’re shifting our Varnish/Mead setup to Fastly, refining observability, standardising on-call culture, and embedded risk awareness (e.g., security, compliance, incident response) into shipping products.
This role requires: ✔ Technical leadership with hands-on engineering expertise in infrastructure, Kubernetes, observability, and production operations. ✔ Architectural vision to define a coherent strategy across cloud infrastructure, reliability, deployment, security, and cost without creating bureaucracy. ✔ Ownership clarity — Platform vs. SRE vs. Product — to optimise decision-making and minimise friction when things break.
Key Objectives
1. Strategic Direction for Cloud Infrastructure
- Define a scalable roadmap covering:
- Cloud, reliability, security, observability
- Cost discipline without stifling innovation
- Multi-region scale, disaster recovery, grey-site testing, and hub-spoke networking
- Regulatory compliance (SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI, HIPAA)
2. Engineering & Platform Leadership
- Head teams scaling platforms like:
- GCP projects/clusters
- Kubernetes (architecture, access control)
- Service mesh/networking
- CI/CD pipelines
- Infrastructure-as-code workflows
- APM and monitoring (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Fastly, Cloud Logging)
- Edge/AWS Lambda vs. cloud-native rollouts

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
- Define and enforce operational standards for ics-ops, on-call rotation, incident response protocols, paging thresholds, postmortems.
- Advocate for high reliability whilst balancing experiment tradeoffs _(e.g., Stark, tests in prod “we can go either way”).*
3. Product & Customer Experience Synergy
- Shapeless cameras from remote tour: collaborate with product/design in shipping features _(e.g., backfill your costs vs. Tiered on-boarding, practice decommission.)
- Work interdependently with Security, Customer Success, and Live Ops for proactively solving uptime, latency, security-stack visibility, and size-justified reviews.
4. Optimising Developer Experience
- Add safeguards for onboarding engineers while optimizing container build targets.
- Execute deployment automation strategies — boring rates stick.
- Dashboard visibility wars targeting tooling internals (Fastly-connectors, Grafana, OPA).
5. Cost Product Development (Cloudحن)
- Think ugly-but-urgent: balance cost visibility with business needs.
- Own spend accountability without stalling juniors in their Sean decks (portfolio-make it more exciting).
6. Hiring & Growth
- Overlay strategic guard-railing on a team of leaders and engineers.
What You Bring: Technical & Leadership Fit
Past Scale Experience (Scalable SaaS)
- Led Infra/Platform/SRE teams in:
- High-volume SaaS/orchestrated environments
- Multi-region, high-reliable systems (99.99% SLA)
- Production on-call incidence — not just Priatric visualization.
- Humble GCP/AWS spends and compliance.
Core Technical Areas
✔ Platform Design
- Multi-cluster GCP/AWS setups, set aside your (new-age financial models)—you’ll be using Terraform and CI/CD the right way.
- Beginner-friendly: Kubernetes + Istio deep dives, AKS/GKE mesh, and resource quotas. ✔ Surgery including Monitoring & Observability
- APM vs metrics vs logging alignment. ✔ CDN/Edge Workflows
- Varnish → Fastly transition, hot-backups, CDC/streaming.
- GKE to Anthos-focused security task queues?
