Director, Creative & Content

Employment Type: Full Time

Description
About us
We are Digital Science and we are advancing the research ecosystem. We are a pioneering technology company, and our vision is of a future where a trusted and collaborative research ecosystem drives progress for all. We believe in better, open, collaborative and inclusive research. In creating the next generation of tools and working in partnership with the community we tackle some of the biggest challenges to research. In order to achieve our vision, we need innovative, inspiring and dynamic people to join our team. Want to join us?
Your new role
The Director, Creative & Content owns the story Digital Science's B2C brands tell, and the craft that turns that story into content people actually stop for. You lead creative design, execution, and content strategy across B2C. You own the content and social function, and you give each launch a voice worth listening to.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You set the direction, and you build the engine that delivers it. You'll build and run a small team, growing it as the portfolio does. The Social Media and Community Managers report to you, alongside a rotation of Content Creators. You report to the VP Marketing and partner closely with your marketing colleagues and the Product Design team on visual identity and design systems. Your job is to build a content and creative engine that runs at pace, holds a high bar for quality, and keeps output high across every channel a researcher spends time in.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead creative design, execution, and content strategy for Digital Science's B2C brands. Translate brand positioning into campaigns, content series, and a distinct voice for each consumer product, then see it through to finished work.
- Own content and social as a function. Lead and develop the team, and set the standard their work is measured against.
- Lead creative direction and hands-on execution for major launches, including papers.ai, working alongside the New-Product GTM squad so launches carry a clear, consistent creative point of view rather than being assembled at the last minute.
- Build the content and creative engine the growth plan depends on: video, social-native formats, and a creator programme that compounds instead of resetting every month. Run it at pace, at a high bar for quality, and at the output the portfolio needs.
- Partner with the central Product Design team on visual identity, brand guidelines, and design systems, so consumer-facing creative stays coherent with the product experience without duplicating that team's work.
- Report on what the creative and content function is producing and what it's driving, in partnership with the Growth Analyst, so the work is judged on impact, not just volume.
- Use AI tools to speed up content production and creative development, while keeping a sharp editorial eye on what still needs a human's judgement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you’ll bring to the role
- 10+ years in consumer marketing, with meaningful time spent leading creative and content for a B2C or consumer-facing brand, across both strategy and hands-on production.
- A track record of building content and creative functions from a small base, not just running an established one.
- Strong creative judgement paired with commercial discipline. Can hold a distinct brand voice while staying accountable to growth targets.
- Experience directing and producing creative for product launches, ideally at the pace and stakes of a competitive, fast-moving market.
- Comfortable partnering with a central design function without stepping into its territory. Understands the difference between brand and product design, and where the two need to meet.
- People leadership experience. Has hired, developed, and given feedback to a small creative or content team.
- Fluent in the mechanics of organic and paid social, content platforms, and creator/community programmes, and happy to get hands-on when the work calls for it.
- Interest in research technology, academia, or the researcher community is valued.
