The Team

KPMG’s Debt Advisory practice is a part of KPMG’s Corporate Finance division and has an over 25 year history of providing independent capital structure and debt financing advice to borrowers on developing and executing debt financing strategies.

The team’s typical clients include listed companies, medium to large privately owned businesses and private equity / sponsor-backed entities. The team operates across two core verticals focusing on ‘Corporates’ and ‘Leveraged Finance’

The Corporates vertical advises both on standalone financings as well as part of multi-disciplinary transactions alongside other parts of the firm and/or in support of KPMG’s wider client base. Its experience spans the spectrum of debt markets, financing instruments, asset classes, sectors and situations (including M&A, investment, new debt issues, refinancing and restructuring / amendments to debt facilities). It operates across all sectors and also has experience in specialist financing markets in infrastructure, energy, financial services and real estate.

We are seeking to continue the growth trajectory of the business and are in the market for recruiting top talent, who are keen to contribute to the ongoing success of the business.

The Role

Roles & Responsibilities

The primary responsibility for this role will be to lead the Debt Advisory team’s ‘Corporates’ strategy, including providing specialist debt advice in relation to:

  • Financing strategy development and options evaluation to enable corporates to access the debt markets to deliver strategic business plans
  • Executing new or (re)financing transactions, supporting corporates to raise financing on competitive, flexible terms to support growth, including accessing new markets and/or lenders;
  • Executing financing and/or amending facilities to support M&A and other corporate transactional or restructuring activity to support strategic change;
  • Providing other capital structure or debt financing advice or relevant financing stakeholder management assistance as part of multi-disciplinary teams in support of wider corporate or transactional activity where the provision of such advice is relevant to its execution.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The role will involve working closely with debt advisory, M&A, Advisory or other firm-wide colleagues, in originating and executing debt advisory mandates, from client opportunity development to strategic formulation to successful transaction completion.

This will also involve participating in relationship management with clients, sponsors and other multipliers, in addition to leveraging wider firm client relationship managers or capability / sector teams to originate new business opportunities. It is expected that typical clients would comprise mid-market to larger businesses, consistent with KPMG’s client base.

The role will have a national remit to support clients across the United Kingdom, which may also include cross-border transactions or international flows of capital (largely to/from the UK market).

The role represents an ideal opportunity for candidates to take on leadership of this ‘Corporates’ strategy, alongside other senior debt advisory leaders, to drive the growth in this business and capture the significant market potential for such services with KPMG’s target client base. This will also form a key growth pillar of the wider Corporate Finance growth strategy and ambition where debt advisory capability and relationships may support wider competitiveness and synergy.

  • Leadership of the ‘Corporates’ Debt Advisory service offering
  • Business development: Play a key role in furthering KPMG’s debt advisory market presence, leveraging relationships, internal and external multipliers, and lender communities, and supporting business development activity across the team and wider firm
  • Deal origination: Leading the charge on developing deal flow, using a network of relevant and high-level contacts (internal and external) to help originate debt advisory mandates both on a standalone basis and/or as part of a multi-disciplinary firm activity
  • Manage internal relationships: Further leverage off KPMG’s reach and brand its core markets to harness the strength and breadth of senior relationships
  • Ensuring rigorous and efficient execution delivery: remaining fully engaged throughout a process to support high quality of delivery and client satisfaction
  • Team development: Develop, coach and motivate an experienced team. While the successful individual(s) will have more of an external / client / origination focus, they will not be successful without further developing a more delivery focused team
  • Establish a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships with external parties including intermediaries and other advisors (as may be relevant)
  • The successful individual will be central to all key decision making and will play a vital role in the continued development and success of the Debt Advisory and supporting firm growth.
