Your role at a glance

The Regional Director of Construction for Data Centres is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategic, technical, and operational delivery of data centre construction projects across the EMEA region. The role blends strategic leadership, technical expertise, and project management to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standard.

What we are looking for

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan for data centre construction that aligns with the organization's business objectives.
  • Oversee a portfolio of data centre construction new build projects in the EMEA region.
  • Lead and develop a team of project delivery professionals across the region.
  • Ensure that all projects adhere to defined scope, budget, and timelines.
  • Implement project management best practices and methodologies.
  • Allocate and manage resources, including budgets, personnel, contractors, and equipment, to support data centre construction projects.
  • Optimize resource allocation for maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance on data centre facility designs, ensuring they meet operational, security, scalability, and sustainability requirements.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and consultants to drive innovative solutions.
  • Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and report financial performance to senior leadership.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize project spending.
  • Identify potential risks associated with data centre construction projects and develop comprehensive risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proactively address issues to minimize project disruptions.
  • Establish and enforce rigorous quality control measures to ensure that construction work adheres to design specifications, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits.
  • Ensure that all data centre construction projects comply with local, national, and international regulations, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Obtain necessary permits and approvals.
  • Select, negotiate with, and manage external vendors, suppliers, and construction contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements and timelines.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, stakeholders, and executive leadership to align data centre construction projects with organizational goals and priorities.
  • Provide regular updates on project status and milestones.
  • Promote and enforce safety protocols, environmental responsibility, and sustainability practices in data centre construction projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.

Required Experience:

  • Significant experience gained in a similar role within a global delivery organization.
  • Significant experience in project management methodologies, tools, and practices.
  • Significant experience managing and leading large data construction or other mission-critical projects.

Academic Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Uses extensive knowledge across functional areas to direct the application of existing policies and principles and guide the development of new policies and ideas across the function.
  • Leads, integrates, and directs work applying substantial practical expertise across function disciplines.
  • Solutions are devised based on limited information and issues that are occasionally complex and fundamental principles and data may be in conflict.
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction to teams, driving operational excellence and results.
  • In-depth knowledge of data centre or other mission-critical facilities, infrastructure, best practices, and industry standards.
  • Strong technical understanding of electrical systems, HVAC, cooling technologies, networking, and security systems relevant to data centre construction.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, including managing cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration, stakeholder management, and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities to address complex challenges.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends and best practices.
  • Excellent project delivery experience and skillset, with the ability to operate within a multi-cultural environment.
  • Solid interpersonal skills, demonstrating strong development and maintenance of stakeholder engagement.
