This is a senior role (Director level) at the heart of CBRE Investment Management’s European Research Team, directly influencing investment strategy across one of Europe’s leading real estate investment platforms. You will own the firm’s pan-European retail research agenda, shaping how the business understands and responds to structural and cyclical change across European retail markets. The team plays a critical role in formulating investment strategy, steering portfolio construction and setting transaction priorities, and you will be expected to drive that agenda for retail — translating rigorous analysis into clear, compelling views that inform decision-making at the highest levels of the organisation. The role is full time and permanent, based in London or Amsterdam.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the firm’s pan-European retail research agenda, acting as the principal internal authority on European retail markets and serving as a credible external voice for the firm’s views.
- Influence investment decision-making by delivering clear, evidence-based retail market views to the European Investment Committee, portfolio managers and senior leadership, both verbally and in writing.
- Analyse the impact of macroeconomic, capital market and structural trends on European retail real estate markets.
- Present at fund and investor meetings, internal forums and external industry events. Contribute to capital raising through compelling communication of the firm’s retail market positioning.
- Take an active role in the firm’s European House Views process, including assisting with forecasting and devising preferred investment strategies.
- Produce acquisition and disposition research reports for retail assets, providing investment committees with incisive market context and risk assessment.
- Build out analytical tools to assess market, submarket and asset-level qualities to drive conviction in new retail opportunities and support hold/sell analysis.
- Author and edit research content for fund reports, external publications and thought leadership papers at a European and Global level.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
