HSEQ Director

Salary: £95k

Benefits: Executive Car/Allowance, Generous Pension and Bonuses, Healthcare

Location: UK (Hybrid / Regional Site Travel)

Sector: Civil Engineering & Infrastructure

Our client is a rapidly expanding UK civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced HSE Director to lead, shape, and elevate its health, safety, and environmental strategy across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects.

Reporting directly to the Board, the successful candidate will champion a proactive safety culture, drive environmental compliance, and support sustainable business growth across regional and national operations.

The Role

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop, implement, and continuously refine the overarching Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy in line with UK regulatory frameworks and ISO standards.
  • Cultural Excellence: Drive a behavioural safety culture across all site operations, promoting engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure robust compliance with CDM regulations, HSE standards, and client-specific requirements across complex civil engineering environments.
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor the central HSE advisory team, maintaining strong operational support for project delivery teams.
  • Environmental & ESG: Oversee environmental mitigation plans, waste reduction initiatives, and ESG integration across site delivery.
  • Incident Management: Champion root-cause investigation protocols, risk mitigation strategies, and executive-level reporting to the Board.

  • Proven track record as an HSE Director, Head of HSE, or Senior HSE Manager within the UK civil engineering or major infrastructure sectors.
  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) and relevant environmental qualifications (e.g., IEMA).
  • Comprehensive understanding of UK CDM Regulations and complex civil engineering operational delivery.
  • Strong executive-level communication skills, with a track record of influencing senior stakeholders and operational teams alike.
  • Willingness to undertake UK travel as required by site operations.
