Director / Executive Director, Equities Portfolio Risk
Location: London
Business Area: Global Equities
Reporting Line: Global Equities Leadership
Overview
A leading global investment bank is seeking a senior front-office risk professional to join its Global Equities franchise. This is a highly visible role embedded within the business, partnering directly with senior trading leadership to provide portfolio-level risk oversight, challenge and strategic insight across the global equities platform.
The role sits above individual trading desks and focuses on identifying, assessing and mitigating risks across the franchise as a whole. Operating as a trusted adviser to senior management, the successful individual will help shape risk-taking decisions, portfolio construction, hedging strategy and risk governance across Equities.
This is not a traditional Market Risk position. The role is business-facing, commercially oriented and centred on enhancing front-office ownership of risk. A proven background in trading is considered essential.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Risk Leadership
- Conduct comprehensive portfolio-level stress testing and scenario analysis across the global equities business.
- Assess concentrations, correlations, tail risks and cross-product exposures.
- Review franchise-wide hedging strategies and identify residual risks.
- Provide challenge and recommendations around portfolio construction, positioning and risk-reward trade-offs.
- Support trading leadership through periods of heightened market volatility and uncertainty.
Strategic Risk Oversight
- Identify thematic, structural and systemic risks impacting the equities franchise.
- Analyse the interaction of risks across businesses including:
- Cash Equities
- Equity Derivatives
- Delta One
- Equity Financing
- Structured Equity Products
- Volatility and Exotics
- Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS)
- Assess emerging market, liquidity and event-driven risks that may impact the broader franchise.
- Partner with business leaders on mitigating actions and strategic risk initiatives.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
