The Planet Group has partnered with a leading consultancy to appoint a Director of Finance Shared Services on a permanent basis.

Overall job purpose:

The role provides strategic leadership to deliver a client‑centric, digitally enabled, high‑performing Finance Shared Services (FSS) function.

As a senior leader you will be accountable for ensuring FSS deliver a premium service to our stakeholders, focused on exceptional service, seamless end to end processes, and modern, efficient ways of working.

You will ensure that interfaces are simple, dependable, insight-driven and digitally led, while maintaining strong governance, controls and operational resilience.

As a trusted adviser to senior leaders, you will shape and execute the long-term FSS strategy, navigate and prioritise competing demands, proactively manage stakeholders, and collaborate across the organisation.

You will driving continuous improvement and build a high‑performing team covering the following areas:

  • Accounts Payable & Expenses
  • Accounts receivable
  • Payroll
  • Payments

Responsibilities

1. Stakeholder Experience

  • Position Finance Shared Services as a client‑centric service provider, delivering consistent, intuitive and high‑quality experiences for internal and external clients.
  • Establish clear service standards, by developing existing service legal agreements, and evolve measures that reflect client expectations and ensure clarity of ownership and fast resolutions.
  • Use data, feedback, insight and experience to continuously improve service quality, responsiveness and trust.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for complex, sensitive service issues, ensuring outcomes protect client relationships and our brand.
  • Champion a culture or service excellence, accountability and teamwork.

2. Premium ways of working

  • Embed premium ways of working across Finance Shared Services - balancing pace, quality and collaboration.
  • Build strong cross‑functional partnerships, ensuring Finance Shared Services is perceived as ‘client centric’ and valued as a benchmark for service delivery.
  • Ensure workloads are:
    • Clearly prioritised and outcome‑focused
    • Professionally executed with high attention to quality
    • Supported by clear governance and ownership.
  • Drive standardisation and simplification of processes.
  • Enable teams to operate with confidence, autonomy and professionalism through clear role clarity, decision frameworks and escalation paths.

3. Digital enablement & Modernisation

  • Lead digital enablement for Finance Shared Services, maximising value from Workday and associated technologies.
  • Drive automation, workflow orchestration, self‑service and AI adoption.
  • Ensure digital solutions are designed end‑to‑end, with the user experience at the centre.
  • Act as the firm’s ambassador within the Finance Shared Services domain, representing the function internally and externally with professionalism.

4. Operational Excellence & Service Delivery

  • Provide executive oversight across all FSS areas.
  • Ensure processes are designed for scale, risk mitigation, compliance, accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Uphold strong financial governance, audit readiness and data integrity.
