Salary: £95,000–£107,000

We are recruiting a Director of Financial Control, Operations & Stewardship for a large, complex, and purpose-led organisation.
This is a senior finance leadership appointment with organisation-wide responsibility for financial control, statutory reporting, treasury, core finance operations, and financial stewardship.
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive, you will be responsible for ensuring the organisation has a strong control environment, accurate and timely financial information, effective finance operations, and a clear programme of continuous improvement.
The Role
You will lead a multi-disciplinary portfolio covering financial control, statutory reporting, treasury, finance operations, operational procurement, and elements of property management.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Owning the organisation’s financial control framework and ensuring the integrity of its books and records
- Leading statutory financial reporting and the Annual Report and Accounts
- Managing the external audit relationship and associated reporting timetable
- Owning month-end and year-end close, balance sheet control, reconciliations, and the integrity of financial actuals
- Leading treasury, banking, cash management, and liquidity reporting
- Overseeing core financial processing, payments, and finance operations
- Providing leadership across operational procurement and procure-to-pay processes
- Driving process improvement, standardisation, systems development, and automation
- Improving data quality, reducing unnecessary hand-offs, and strengthening service delivery
- Providing assurance and advice to the Deputy Chief Executive, senior leadership, and relevant Board committees
- Leading and developing a high-performing multi-disciplinary team

The role will also act as a senior leader for the Peterborough office, providing visible leadership and helping ensure effective coordination across teams based at the site.
About You
You will be a qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, or equivalent – with substantial senior leadership experience across financial control and finance operations.
You are likely to bring:
- Strong technical accounting and financial reporting knowledge
- Significant experience of statutory reporting and external audit
- Experience leading month-end and year-end close
- Strong balance sheet control, treasury, and cash-management experience
- A track record of leading substantial finance teams within a complex organisation
- Experience improving finance processes, controls, systems, and ways of working
- Exposure to automation, technology-led improvement, or finance transformation
- The ability to communicate complex financial and control matters clearly to senior stakeholders
- Strong judgement, leadership, and the confidence to escalate material issues where necessary

Experience within a charity, regulated, group, or similarly complex organisation would be advantageous. Exposure to operational procurement, procure-to-pay, shared services, or property-related operations would also be beneficial.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad financial control and operations portfolio, strengthen the organisation’s financial infrastructure, and lead meaningful improvement across systems, processes, and service delivery.
