Job Description
Turner & Townsend’s ambition is to build the leading programme solutions business in the market, transforming performance on the world’s most impactful programmes. Our global Natural Resources team operate across the energy lifecycle. They work on projects throughout the whole lifecycle from pre-development, through feasibility, concept selection and definition, FEED, delivery of facilities, processing, distribution and REVEX/OPEX investment.
We have various delivery models; Programme Partner, PMC, specific tasks, Advisory Services, and Technical Services across Programme Management, Project Management, Technology, Sustainability, Asset Management, Contract & Commercial Management, Procurement, and Programme Controls.
To support current and future sector requirements we are now seeking a Head of Transmission who will initially focus on our UK and European Transmission activity before supporting, and potentially leading, our global sector.
Requirements
- Experience and credibility in Transmission development and delivery, with an existing knowledge of, and relationships with, both national and international operators and an understanding of their ongoing investment portfolio.
- Your track record will have seen you holding senior roles on complex projects, in transmission, operator senior leadership roles, or in a Professional Services organisation. Roles include Programme Director, Asset Director, Portfolio Director or Head of Sector within a Professional Services firm.
- Technical understanding of the services that are set out above and will be offered to clients is of benefit.
- Candidates should expect, and be able to, travel throughout the UK and Europe.

Key objectives:
- Make Turner & Townsend number one in the market, increasing market share and influence, within the transmission market.
- Position Turner & Townsend as a go to organisation for programme, asset, portfolio and project services and advice.
- Create a consistent and profitable business stream through the right ambition.
- Identify and understand areas of opportunity and development, and develop propositions to respond to market need.
- Enable and achieve financial targets and continued growth within target markets.
- To ensure that the Transmission team in the UK and Europe is effectively structured, engaged and led.
Key requirements of the role:
- To be an inspirational leader and strategic thinker.
- To build strong relationships with clients and cross-functional team members. The job requires the holder to build trust with clients, industry partners and colleagues, and maintain their “One Business” ethos.
- To secure business development opportunities with existing and new clients, including cross-selling opportunities.
- Provide clear leadership on behalf of clients, translating into trust and confidence in the organizations ability to deliver. Assure delivery of our services.
- To lead and develop a highly capable team, appropriate to the scale of market opportunity.
- Set ambitious yet achievable targets across Europe.
- Lead by example and not be averse to being hands-on in creation and delivery.
- Act as a team player and be highly visible within the business.
Qualifications
- You will be self-motivated, driven by the goal of establishing Turner & Townsend as the #1 programmes business for Transmission in Europe. You will work closely with the various country P&L owners to align sector ambition with business operations.
- Extensive experience working as a client and/or consultant in development and delivery of Offshore Wind
- A proven track record managing large projects and/or programmes of work
- A strong people developer and leader
- Experience in variety of methods of procurement and forms of contract
- A broad understanding the electricity value chain from generation, through grid and into supply
- A strong and current understanding of regulatory and permitting requirements and industry trends
- Experience in business development and building teams
- An established network within the power industry supply chain
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- The ability to guide and lead internal teams, offering a strong point of focus for the business.
- Proven success in advising, securing, and delivering on behalf of clients
- Operated as a consultant and delivered major capital programmes
- Grown a business, year in through innovation and improving client’s performance.
- Degree qualified in construction and/or engineering
- Professional memberships desirable.
