Director, Hydrodynamics
Navis is partnered with an established global organisation that is seeking a Director, Hydrodynamics to provide technical leadership across their fleet and newbuilding activities.
This role will serve as a senior technical subject matter expert in hydrodynamics, propulsion efficiency, environmental impact, and related regulatory matters. Collaborating with multiple internal technical and operational stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead a cross-functional hydrodynamics working group and coordinate technical priorities and initiatives.
- Provide expert guidance on vessel propulsion and hydrodynamic efficiency across operational vessels and newbuild programmes.
- Identify and support the implementation of technologies, maintenance standards and best practices that improve hydrodynamic performance.
- Maintain knowledge of hull coatings, propeller and hull maintenance, biofouling management and underwater cleaning technologies.
- Support monitoring and reporting of propulsive performance and hydrodynamic efficiency.
- Identify emerging technologies and opportunities to improve vessel energy efficiency.
- Maintain awareness of R&D activity and support additional research in priority areas, including underwater radiated noise.
- Monitor relevant regulatory developments and represent the organisation in appropriate industry working groups and forums.
- Work across technical, operational and newbuilding functions to support efficiency, environmental and regulatory objectives.
- Maintain a technical library of projects, research and lessons learned to support wider organisational knowledge sharing.

Experience & Qualifications
- University technical degree or equivalent.
- Strong technical background in Naval Architecture and Ship Hydrodynamics.
- In-depth knowledge of ship hydrodynamics, ideally including cruise vessels.
- Experience leading complex technical projects and managing significant budgets.
- Strong strategic, commercial, analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, negotiation and diplomacy skills.
- Ability to provide technical leadership and influence senior stakeholders without direct line management responsibility.
- Experience representing an organisation within hydrodynamics-related industry environments.
