Embedded Software & Controls Leader, Digital Energy Software Business

Digital Energy Software is a core business of the Energy Management Business of Schneider Electric within the Software and Services Division, and focuses on the Operations Software platform, software-defined control systems, IoT solutions and analytics/AI enabled capabilities for best in class operation, optimization, management and control across Building, Power and Energy applications of multiple end-markets and verticals, from small-medium buildings up to Large and Mission-critical Buildings and Infrastructure.

Role: Leader of Embedded Software & Controls

Mission:
Lead the next generation of intelligent, software-defined edge control platforms. We are looking for an exceptional Embedded Software & Controls leader to lead the embedded software organization responsible for the next generation of intelligent controllers, edge hardware, and software-defined control platforms. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of building automation, controls, and edge AI—bringing together embedded software, hardware, connectivity, controls, cloud, and AI into a new generation of intelligent products.

You will lead a global team of embedded software engineers and work closely with hardware, cloud, application software, product management, and architecture teams to deliver end-to-end products from concept through development, industrialization, scale, and sustain. The ideal candidate is both a technologist and a leader: someone who has built and scaled embedded products, understands controls at a deep technical level, has managed multidisciplinary HW/FW teams, and knows how to turn ambitious technology concepts into reliable products deployed at scale.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and grow the Embedded SW/control platform organization, developing a high-performing team of embedded/FW engineers and technical leaders.
  • Define the software architecture and technology roadmap for next-generation edge controllers and software-defined hardware platforms.
  • Partner closely with HW, controls, cloud, and application software teams to create robust end-to-end system architectures.
  • Drive product development from early architecture and prototyping through industrialization, manufacturing scale-up, deployment, and sustain.
  • Establish strong engineering practices around architecture, development, CI/CD, automated testing, cybersecurity, reliability, observability, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead the evolution of embedded platforms across RTOS and Linux-based architectures, balancing performance, determinism, security, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Guide the development of connected control platforms using protocols and technologies such as BACnet, Modbus, IP/Ethernet, RS-485, and modern wireless and IoT connectivity stacks.
  • Bring a deep understanding of DDC and distributed control architectures, networking topologies, field devices, controllers, gateways, and edge-to-cloud systems.
  • Expand the capabilities of the edge through AI/ML inference, edge intelligence, and AI-native control architectures.
  • Work closely with software architecture teams to establish a coherent edge-to-cloud platform strategy and accelerate convergence across product and software ecosystems.
  • Own the technical approach to balancing new product development with sustain engineering, ensuring installed-base products remain reliable while the platform evolves.
  • Build strong relationships across engineering, offer management, operations, manufacturing, quality, and customer-facing support/sales organizations.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, innovation, and speed, while maintaining the engineering discipline required for products operating in mission-critical environments.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Technical Leadership

  • 10+ years of engineering management and technical leadership experience, including direct leadership of embedded/FW/HW development teams.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading cross-functional HW and FW/embedded software teams.
  • Strong development background—you have personally built, architected, debugged, or delivered embedded/control products and can engage deeply with engineers on technical decisions.
  • Deep understanding of embedded systems, real-time software, and distributed control architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with RTOS platforms such as ThreadX / Azure RTOS, FreeRTOS, or equivalent.
  • Strong experience with embedded Linux and modern edge computing architectures.
  • Deep knowledge of wireless technologies, communication stacks, networking, and IoT architectures.
  • Experience with industrial/edge protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and related field and building automation communication technologies.
  • Strong understanding of different network topologies, gateways, controllers, field buses, and edge-to-cloud communication patterns.
  • Experience taking products through the complete lifecycle: architecture → development → validation → industrialization → scale → deployment → sustainment à EoL.

Domain Experience

Experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:

  • Building automation / Building Management Systems
  • DDCs and HVAC controls
  • Industrial automation and controls
  • Home automation / smart home
  • Industrial IoT
  • Energy management and intelligent buildings
  • Connected devices and edge computing

Experience with AI/ML at the edge is a strong plus, particularly applying AI to controls, optimization, anomaly detection, prediction, or autonomous operation.

Leadership & Education

  • BS in Electrical, Computer, Software, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. o Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead organizations through significant technology and product transformation.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence senior technical and business stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating at both the architectural level and the engineer-to-engineer technical level.
  • A builder’s mindset: you are energized by ambiguity, complex technical problems, and creating something that has not existed before.

Ready to join the building of the future today?

The edge is becoming the center of intelligent control. The next generation of controllers will not simply execute control logic—they will be software-defined, highly connected, AI-enabled, secure, and continuously evolving. You will have the opportunity to define that future. You will lead the transformation from traditional controllers to intelligent edge platforms, combining real-time control, advanced connectivity, Linux, IoT, and AI into products that can fundamentally change how buildings and industrial systems operate.

If you have the technical depth to understand controls, the engineering experience to build and scale embedded products, and the leadership ambition to redefine the intelligent edge, this is your opportunity to lead the change. Come build the next generation of intelligent controllers—and help create the industry-leading AI-native edge architecture of tomorrow.
