Role reports to: Senior Director Medical Affairs EMEA

Location: Reading One Station Hill Square

Travel %: Up to 20%

People Reporting: 5-10 Clinicians and Scientists

What you will do

The Director Medical Affairs, EMEA is responsible for directing the operational functions of medical affairs, ensuring alignment with company goals, and overseeing the design and implementation of medical plans and programs. You will lead medical strategy, project planning, manage budgets and vendor relationships, and foster collaboration to support product development and compliance:

Key Responsibilities include

  • Lead the strategic planning, vision, and execution of medical affairs initiatives and programs across the EMEA region, ensuring alignment with global healthcare trends, regulatory landscapes, and company objectives including innovation projects.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration between Medical Affairs, Translational Science, Regulatory, other R&D Functions and Commercial teams to integrate medical insights and expertise into product development, lifecycle management, and product launch.
  • Oversee the development, review, approval, and implementation of medical and scientific communications and education programs that comply with relevant Country Codes and regulatory standards and engage across diverse cultural and regulatory environments globally.
  • Champion the development, communication, and utilization of real-world evidence, other data and innovative medical education outputs to support clinical decision-making, consumer access strategies, and empower healthcare professionals and consumers with the latest scientific understanding.
  • Manage certain clinical data generation projects including protocol development, budgeting, staffing, and timeline adherence.
  • Develop professional relationships with External Experts, Scientific Organizations, Regulatory and policy bodies, healthcare stakeholders, and vendors to influence medical policies, ensure high-quality support services, and oversee contract negotiations and performance.
  • Input to pharmacovigilance activities, including inspections, adverse event reporting, risk management strategies, and ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements.
  • Influence and lead the digital transformation of medical affairs, including expertise in AI
  • Leadership within the wider medical, scientific and R&D Organizations
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing medical affairs team, fostering a culture of scientific excellence, creativity, continuous learning, teamwork, and risk management.

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

  • Higher Clinical or Scientific degree or equivalent with broad medical background and expertise in medical affairs.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in medical affairs or related pharmaceutical/biotech industry roles.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience leading cross-functional teams and complex projects.
  • Proven ability to design and implement medical affairs strategies supporting development, life-cycle management and product commercialization.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, pharmacovigilance, and compliance frameworks relevant to medical affairs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Expertise in budget management, contract negotiation, and vendor oversight within a medical or clinical setting.

  • Professional Clinical Qualification, such as Physician, Dentist, Pharmacist or equivalent degree preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in navigating complex regulatory frameworks and healthcare systems.
  • Proven track record of leading innovative medical strategies that have driven measurable impact on patient outcomes and business growth.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire multidisciplinary teams and manage high-stakes projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong technical expertise including digital fluency
  • Strong proficiency in leveraging real-world data and advanced analytics to inform medical and commercial decision-making.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders including KOLs, regulatory agencies, and internal teams.
  • A strategic mindset with a passion for advancing medical science and improving healthcare delivery on a regional scale.
  • Ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
