Director of AI
Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Director of AI starting in January or April 2027. Applications are welcomed from both teaching and non-teaching candidates.
Overview
As artificial intelligence reshapes education and the workplace, Brighton College is developing an ambitious, sector-leading AI programme embedded within its curriculum. In partnership with pioneering research institutions and blue-chip technology companies, the school aims to prepare pupils and staff to use AI creatively, responsibly and effectively.
The Director of AI will provide strategic and academic leadership for this work, developing an ambitious 11–18 curriculum, building staff capability, advising on policy and governance, and supporting thoughtful use of AI across the College and its family of schools.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will be:
AI Curriculum and Educational Leadership
- In close collaboration with the Deputy Head (Academic), lead the design, development and delivery of a new progressive AI curriculum for pupils aged 11–18.
- Work with academic departments to integrate AI meaningfully into subject teaching and learning.
- Build relationships with external academics and form partnerships with pioneering technology companies and research institutions.
- Develop talks, workshops, masterclasses and enrichment opportunities for pupils.

Leadership and Staff Development
- Reporting to the Head Master, contribute to whole-school strategy and decision-making as a member of the Senior Management Team.
- Lead the new Artificial Intelligence Department and line manage teaching colleagues.
- Build effective relationships with senior academic and support staff across the College.
- In partnership with the Deputy Head (Pupils), ensure the College’s values and commitment to character development remain central to the AI curriculum and programme.
- Work closely with the Futures team to ensure the AI programme prepares pupils for a rapidly evolving world of work and future career pathways.
- Lead professional development on the responsible and effective use of AI for academic and support staff.
AI Policy, Governance and Safeguarding
- Lead the development, implementation and regular review of the College’s AI policies, ensuring they address responsible use, academic integrity, assessment, data protection, privacy, safeguarding and ethics.
- Monitor developments in regulation, guidance and best practice relevant to AI in education.
- Work with relevant colleagues to keep the College’s approach legally compliant and appropriately risk managed.
- Provide clear guidance to pupils, parents and staff on the responsible use of AI.

AI-enabled Operations
- Identify opportunities where AI could improve efficiency, quality, decision-making or the experience of pupils, parents and staff.
- Develop and evaluate appropriate pilots, with clearly defined benefits and success measures.
- Advise on AI-related software, platforms, hardware, external expertise and professional development.
Collaboration with the Wider Family of Schools
- Work with senior colleagues to support meaningful AI education in Brighton College Prep Schools.
- Act as a source of expertise and advice to the College’s family of international schools.
- Share curriculum resources, policies, training approaches and best practice where appropriate.
- Support a coherent approach to AI education across the wider group.
Reporting and Strategic Planning
- Report to the Vice Principal on the development and delivery of the College’s AI strategy.
- Provide regular updates to the Senior Management Team on progress, opportunities, risks and impact.
- Maintain a strategic roadmap for AI development across curriculum, staff capability, operations and governance.
- Establish measures of success for curriculum development, staff adoption and pupil outcomes.
