What you’ll do
We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Director of Collections to lead and evolve our end-to-end collections strategy, driving strong portfolio performance while ensuring fair customer outcomes.
You will be responsible for overseeing collections strategy, portfolio analytics and risk management across the credit card lifecycle, whilst providing strategic oversight and performance support to our collections contact centre operation.
You will bring deep expertise in loans and credit card collections, credit risk and portfolio management, combined with strong analytical capabilities, including advanced SQL skills.
Working closely with collections operations, you will provide leadership across key areas including dialler and contact strategies, performance management frameworks, quality assurance and the evaluation and potential procurement of third-party collections service providers where this supports customer outcomes and business objectives.
This role is a role which is subject to certification by us under the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SM&CR).
Key Responsibilities
Collections Strategy & Customer Journey
- Own the end-to-end collections strategy across the customer journey, aligned to a prevent/cure/operate framework. This includes pre-arrears engagement, treatment segmentation, promise-to-pay strategies, forbearance, contact and communication sequencing and intervention approaches designed to maximise customer outcomes, portfolio performance and regulatory compliance.
- Lead the continued improvement of self-serve arrears management tools and digital collections journeys, ensuring options are accessible and Consumer Duty aligned.
- Ensure vulnerable customer identification and support is embedded across all collections channels and customer journeys, in line with FCA Consumer Duty and vulnerability guidance.
- Provide strategic oversight of the collections contact centre operation, partnering with contact centre leadership on dialler and contact strategy, capacity planning and campaign management across outbound activity.
- Establish and govern collections performance, quality assurance and customer outcome frameworks, monitoring key metrics such as contact rate, right-party-contact and conversion to drive consistent, compliant performance.
- Lead the evaluation and potential procurement of third-party or BPO collections service providers, including input to performance governance and contract oversight.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
