Ellwood Atfield is delighted to be partnering with a leading UK research and innovation organisation to appoint a Director of Communications.

This is an outstanding opportunity to join an ambitious, purpose-led organisation whose work is helping to improve lives through science, innovation and collaboration. As the organisation continues to grow, communications is playing an increasingly strategic role in supporting its reputation, influence and organisational ambitions.

We're looking for an experienced communications leader to lead a broad corporate communications function, spanning internal and external communications, media relations and strategic communications. Working with senior leaders across the organisation, you'll help shape organisational narrative, provide strategic communications counsel and ensure communications supports the delivery of key priorities.

  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Lead a broad corporate communications function, spanning internal and external communications, media relations and strategic communications.
    • Work with senior leaders across the organisation.
    • Help shape organisational narrative.
    • Provide strategic communications counsel.
    • Ensure communications supports the delivery of key priorities.

The successful candidate will bring significant experience leading communications within a complex organisation, alongside strong leadership skills, sound judgement and the ability to advise senior stakeholders. Experience of internal communications, organisational change, media relations and reputation management will be important, as will the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and effectively.

  • Experience Required:
    • Leading communications within a complex organisation.
    • Strong leadership skills.
    • Sound judgement.
    • Ability to advise senior stakeholders.
    • Experience in internal communications, organisational change, media relations, and reputation management.
    • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and effectively.

Experience within health, research, science or another mission-led environment would be advantageous.
